No, some sort of waterproof.

And Im mystified as to how you get that lot on `one` bag.

Still less how you carry it...

this must be one of the worst kit lists I have seen.

Out of perverse academic curiousity, has anyone a scout kit list (either late 70s or current) to compare?

Aaaaah, you got me reminiscing...

Pretty sure I had that Ladybird book, along with other kit lists devised by spurious 'experts'
Current Kit list for Scout Camp (courtesy of Hanslope Scouts)

# Rucksack/Kitbag - Not Suitcases
# Sleeping Bag
# Karri Mat
# Blanket
# Small Day Rucksack
# Strong Bin liner / Rucksack inner (waterproof)

# Trainers...Gone are the plimmies
# Walking Boots or strong shoes (Can be hired from The Outdoor Shop, Stony Stratford)
# Thick socks
# Wellingtons
# Waterproof Coat & Trousers
# Sun Hat

# Multiple Socks, Underwear
# Shorts / Trousers or tracksuit bottoms
# Multiple T-shirts / Shirts
# Multiple Sweatshirts / Jumper
# Pyjamas / Nightwear

# Cub / Scout Uniform (to be worn during travel)

# Swimming Trunks / Shorts
# Towel (include one more to act as a pillow)
# Toiletries (flannel or sponge, soap toothbrush & toothpaste hairbrush or comb)
# Sun Tan Lotion
# Handkerchiefs...a veritable Swiss Army Knife ...especially if you travel with kids!

# Knife, Fork, Spoon, Teaspoon
# Non-breakable Large Plate
# Non-breakable Cereal Bowl
# Non-breakable Mug or Cup
# Drink Container
# Tea Towel

# Torch (& spare batteries)
# Pen & Paper
# Personal First Aid Kit
# Plastic bags for dirty clothes
# Pocket Money (not more than £10) to be handed to the camp banker...Camp Banker...too many jokes...

All items must be marked using indelible ink with the Cub/Scouts name.
Do not take to camp
# mobile phones
# electronic games
# stereo / walkman or similar
# anything valuable ...well, in this day and age, that rules out most of the kit!

I do, however, think that the list is meant for extended camp, and not for yomping :)

thats a more sensible list.

I would be inclined to take plimsoles (or the eternaly fashionalable converses) as they are lighter than trainers

the cloth bag for eating kit is too good an idea to ditch. (does anyone eat soft boiled eggs these days?)
