Hello all.

I'll cut to the chase to save you reading the whole thing if this isn't relevant, and then give some detail.
Mods I apologise and please delete, if this goes against the rules.
I am looking for anyone who works for a big company or owns a business or is just feeling generous, that would be willing to sponsor my University Rifle Club, in order for it to be able to keep shooting.

I am the secretary of the Warwick University Rifle Club. We are a reasonably small club with approximately 60 members, who compete in small bore target rifle competitions, as well as participating in other small and full bore target shooting within the club or at ranges across the UK and Europe. The club also caters for airguns and we are gradually expanding in this area. We are also affiliated with the larger Coventry “Jaguar Rifle Club” , sharing resources and our range, and for NSRA affiliation.

As a student (and university staff) only club, a large portion of our funding comes from the student’s union sporting body (Warwick Sport), which our members pay to join. As you can appreciate, the club doesn’t have a large amount of money, but we usually manage to cover our annual costs (gun maintenance, range costs, equipment, affiliation, and insurance) using our limited funds. Unfortunately, this coming academic year, our funds have been cut by the student’s union and we are short of covering our costs by £200. Without this money the club could not function and may have to cease shooting. This is where we would like your help.

We are appealing for any business or individual that would be willing to sponsor our club, and enable us to continue enjoying our sport. In return for your assistance we could offer publicity of the business, through distributing promotional materials and branding on our club kit. This would advertise to our members, the over 20,000 strong student body, and the wider shooting community at all the ranges we shoot at domestically and on trips in Europe. We would also be willing to listen to any suggestions you had as a business or individual, so that we can benefit you, in return for your funding.

Thank you very much if you have read to the end of that.
I look forward to reading any replies and answering any questions, via PM or on the board.

Dan, I'm going to copy this thread into Fair Game too, and see if we can help reach a wider audience who are maybe focused on the subject.

cheers,

My first thought...

£200 divided by 60 members... just a couple of pints each.. how much do the members want the club...

Sorry if it offends but its the way I think

But good luck with your search

Thanks Mary that's awesome :)

And Stu, I appreciate your point but the members already pay a membership fee to the club and a not inconsiderate fee to WarwickSport, which all adds up for Students. We feel its a bit unfair to ask for more of them, especially when we are trying to entice more members to join (especially Freshers). Plus, a partnership with a company could bring benefits to them and the prolonged financial security of the club. Don't worry though, no offence taken and I see where you are coming from. That is the last resort.

My first thought was to increase the fee to shoot on the day say by 25p this would if the each of the members shoot once per month yield £180 extra into the kitty any more times per month would increase the income.

I think that you would need a very specialist sponsor to get involved with shooting clubs as many would see it as the wrong type of publicity.

Again looking at the numbers, seeing as we can only shoot once a week and we only have a 4 lane range so limit ourselves to 12 people maximum (we're not always full and don't necessarily shoot during exams or holidays), we would need to add over a pound per shoot to the fee, which would double the daily cost and possibly put members off. If we increased the club joining fee, our club would no longer be priced similarly to other sports clubs at the university. Still see where you're getting at though guys- Thanks for the advice.

Also fair point about sponsoring a shooting club, but I was hoping one of the outdoor type shop/course/business owners on here may be interested...

A good idea Rod. So good in fact that I've already asked a few days ago! :p
Sadly not something they were up for doing.

Ah well - at least it wasn't a dumb idea ;). Ignore me if you've covered it, but a proper proposal with number of members , number of facebook contacts, etc etc?

I'd have suggested GEC but not sure if they've still got anything much in Cov, they used to have a shooting club & range (back when I was a student/apprentice - many moons ago).

Good luck with the hunt anyway.

Same for anyone on a limited budget, but it still has to be paid by losing other nicety's if people still want something more..

I've had to find other incomes to fund my interests, other wise its sit at home and watch the tv..

Have you thought about doing a car wash with them members of the club giving up their free time..until the shortfall is made up... that would not cost them anything apart from a couple of hrs....

When I was in uni the mountaineering club they did their own fundraising (bag packing, sponsored charity/club events, etc). We had around 60 active members and we raised over £1000 (all of which was given to the union, we'll receive half of it back next year).

I'm sure 60 student can put their heads together and think of a fund raiser event to make some money.

Good Luck

Extending that argument a bit, couldn't "we" as BCUK, contribute, thereby sponsoring the whole deal. BCUK emblazoned on their publicity, etc. Stupid idea, should I just shut up and get on with some more grinding? What does the collective mind think?

Its something we as a club would more than happily do, and we would listen to any suggestion Tony and the Mods had of how we could help BCUK in return, but ultimately its up to them to see if it's something they would like to support.
