There is no can of worms or contention, these things are only pointless to you and your way of doing things, unless you are telling people how to enjoy there time spent out doors then it all just personal style,:)

Just something that I thought was true, sounds like I'm wrong though!

So it's OK to leave rope knotted up like in cord bracelets for extended periods then?

If you leave a knot in rope for a long period of time it creates a 'memory' of being twisted. When you untie the rope it will keep trying to twist back into the shape of the knot and can weaken it. The main problem with leaving knots in place is that you get ware points on the rope where it passes through bends and rubs on it's self, or is loaded in one specific place constantly.

At work we regularly swap out ropes that are in permenent positions and use ones with sewn terminations and plastic thimbles to help prevent karabiner rub.

1) Ventile jackets for people who wish to remain dry
2) Alcohol stoves for people who drink tea
3) Scandi/chisel grinds for anything other than plane irons or chisels
4) PLCE rucksacks for anyone other than squaddies

3. Bin bags loosely flapped around a roll mat on the outside of a pack to 'waterproof' it
4. Ground sheets in any type of shelter other than a completely enclosed tent.
