Had a great time out in the woods last weekend.
I had set myself a challenge of using mostly, repurposed and homemade kit.
Homemade/Repurposed kit included...
Camp knife, made from an old circular saw blade.
General purpose knife, made from a broken paring knife.
Two lanterns, one from a jam jar, and the other from a soda can.
Pack frame come camp chair, from an old Bergan and offcuts.
Kuksa and tin can mug.
An old cheap plastic camo tarp, that had been lying around in the shed.
Tyvek ground sheet.
Wooden spoon and spatula.
Various stoves, bush buddy, popcan meths stove, fondue burner, woodgas stove, vegetable steamer firepit.
Fire crane.
Coffee can pot, and a Fray Bentos pie tin frying pan.
Noodle bowl for a plate and bowl, this also supplied a fork.
Five litre water bottle, from a cooking oil container and the remains of an old gazebo.
Wooden plate and a leather fire kit/ tinder pouch.
All the kit was wrapped in the groundsheet, then the sleeping bag and then the tarp, and all then strapped to the pack frame.
Not lightweight, but easily done for the kilometer or so that I had carry it.
All worked well, but the wind got up on the thursday night, causing the Gunyah shelter to flap noisily in the night. So on friday, I changed the setup to an Adriondak wind shack, but this was only moderately successful, so again I changed the pitch and setup, this time using a Plough point setup. This was the best of three, and completely eliminated the cheap tarps tendency to flap.
All in all, a very relaxing and comfortable weekend.IMG_20220804_152733.jpg
