Found them right at the back of mums attic, they're the '86 and '87 catalogues....I'll upload photos of each double page in order when I get a chance ...any idea how I do this quickly?
Oh my days, that's a blast from the past!

I look forward to seeing those.

ATB,

Allan

I suspect it would be better to scan in and create a PDF of all the pages and upload that.
Hi, thanks for the reply, I'll give it a try, anyone know of a free pdf converter app thing for Android? I just downloaded Adobe but they want £70 so no go there!

Survival Aids Catalogue 1986.....
Awesome blast from the past - thanks for sharing! The thing that amazes me most is just how little choice there was in those days. As I recall the only decent pocket knives available in outdoor shops were Normark, Opinel, SAKs or, if you were lucky, Buck.

I remember looking through a few of these catalogues as a boy, as my Dad used to get them. There was one that was in black and white that had some appealing kit in it.

Some of the kit seemed really impressive at the time. Advances in materials had been made around that era, so much of it hasn't really changed from what I can see, although modern LED headtorches offer a vast improvement in brightness/battery life/weight over the old torches. I'm sure that many things are relatively much cheaper now (I remember in 1988 seeing a -probably very warm sleeping bag- in Joe Brown in Capel Curig for around £320!)

I do remember wanting a Swiss Champ knife at the time. I never did get one.

Thanks for sharing, pretty sure a shortened version was given away with C&S magazine around the same time. This was shortly after they had devoted a few of the magazine's survival sections to singing the virtues of the very same kit....I so wanted some of this stuff, but at 14 on my paper round wage I just couldn't afford it. However I did use two weeks earnings on Lofty Wisemans bible, and that I still have to this day. I worked in the US in the 90's (not as a paper boy!) and picked up everything I'd ever wanted there!

Real expert magazine hoarders have S.W.A.T. magazines - C&S is too new :)
I have written for them both - SWAT was better...
SWAT was fab, I still have this one....did you write anything in this first issue?

No - I was a late comer as a writer, but I continued to write for them as they changed titles to "Survival and Outdoor Techniques" then "Combat and Militaria" ... after they closed I wrote for "Gun Mart" from the same publisher - as well as all sorts of Mainstream outdoor titles such as "Climber and Rambler", "Trail" , "Walking Wales", "Country Walking",etc etc etc inc the iconic "Bushcraft" :)
