Good point. To be honest, I have just come to distrust pu coated tarps a little. Use to own one and the coating just cracked and peeled off after a while. Gaffa tape fixes that, but eventually it all went a bit silly. I'd rather have something that I can re-proof as and when required.
I love...
Cheers all! I'll shoot Bilmo a message later.
It's hard to resist the urge to make onw's own (again) but having looked it up now, a DD Tarp would come out cheapr every single time. It's probably more reliable, too. I could make a tarp out of some polycotton drill for about the same price but...
Good Morning all,
not been on here for some time. I need some advice.
I've very much fallen in love with tarp camping. I do a lot of long distance hikes and the tent slows me down. I suppose a DD Tarp is the way to go, but how durable and tolerant of abuse are they?
I like the idea of a...
Hello all!
Does anyone have recent contact details for the Grith Pioneers at Shining Cliff?
Once upon a time I believe you could rent their fireplaces in the woods for overnight stays. Does that still hold true?
Some of my best projects have been worked with as little as my favourite opinel knife, a dining fork to mark stitching holes, a revolving hole punch, a pack of assorted needles from ASDA and some stout parcel twine. I have upgraded my tools somewhat over the tears but that is basically all you...
Damn, that Asaklitt Spirit Stove seems a steal! I think it might be a bit bulky for a day trip though. I like the option of being able to cook though.
What about those Swedish army Trangia cook sets? Are they any good and are there still any around? How small do they pack down?
Well...I too like to indulge in the making of a cuppa out of doors. Also, my thermos flask still only provides lukewarm tea by the time I want to drink it, so is less than ideal.
I actually quite like that cheap gas stove in principle. The only drawback seems to be that I would have to use the...
I am looking for a cheap, lightweight and no mess solution to take along on day hikes that would allow me to brew up several cups of tea for two people.
Hexi stoves and maths burners both seem to fit the bill. What does the hive mind recommend?
Well, for a jam jar, I suppose. =P
It's just how they turned out with the materials I had around the house. Haven't figured out a way to make them more rainproof yet. Perhaps some sort of metal curved roof...
This isn't technically a bushcraft item but some folks on here might like it anyhow.
Me and a friend made a couple of lanterns out of old jam jars by whittling down scraps of pine with our knives. They work well enough for our tents. :) Give off quite a decent amount of light and are very...
I can only see striped ones on the webpage. I really was looking for something plain to make a jacket out of. Might it be worth ringing him and asking if he's got any that are not on his website?
As the title suggests. I'm suspicious when buying things over the tinterweb. :P
Where can I buy them reliably and cheaply?
Ideally not motheaten or full of weird stains. ;)

Please don't laugh. :p
I'm looking for a day rucksack for a good friend who likes to take his tweed jacket out for walks. He has previously tried...
Haha! I know how it's done with files. The last file I tried it with didn't snap though - it bent. (!)
They don't make them like they used to anymore. :p Does that make me sound old...?
Oh! Those look ideal! Very reasonably priced also.
I do already have my own pouches though, for that personal touch. I made them some time ago and never found a use for them, until now.
If I can't find any better (and I kinda doubt I will) I'll certainly buy some of yours. But right now...
