    Best Plant For Cordage

In my experience I have found that, when prepared the right way, many barks can be pressed into use as strong cord. I have even managed to use things like dead hawthorn bark, and once or twice, sycamore, although the results weren't brilliant. At the right time of year I quite like to use...

    Use For Empty C02 Capsules.

Thats sounds interesting, I might try that and see if I get any better results. How did you do it? I also tried with a PVC cap instead of a cork, as I didn't have any corks to spare, and it seemed to work OK.:)

    Lifting the lid on Woodlore!

You would expect to pay less than £12 for a cast iron pot itself!? Its just someone saying "Now what else can we sell and say that Ray Mears uses in order to jack the price up and have people willingly pay for it." Sorry if that doesn't make sense, as I have just discovered it is difficult to...

    Wanted: MSR Pocket Rocket

ColdIron, I can well understand why. My mate has one and they're brilliant. Gibbsy, those stoves look good, but do you know what the boiling time is for a litre of water? I can't seem to find it on the website. As concerns the classified, I think I will just go ahead and buy from postfree...

    Best Rucksack

After going through several backpacks;) , I have settled on the NI PLCE 35 litre pack, and, although a little heavy, I have found it perfect for my bushcraft and camping needs. I was just wondering how many (if any) other people have this pack, and if so, what do you think of it? Also, what...

    Hammock Tying

I find that I don't like the two ropes on the DD hammock, so I usually have it set up so that there is one long rope, by pulling it throughthe loop in the hammock material, and then tying the rope together with an adjustable loop, eliminating the need for a karabiner if you are trying to keep...

    Hadza to be evicted?

I hope no-one on this forum is going to do anything that would affect hamdan and mohammed bin zayed (lack of capitol letters intentional), as they might wake up dead the next day. Not that I'm being stereotypical or anything but to me, the words ' wealthy, oil, arab princes', etc, are usually...

    Bear Grylls

Anyway, going back to the original point of this thread, lets not forget that he did jump into freezing water, a sinkhole, eat several things that most people wouldnt dream of eating (except us, ofcourse;) ) and several other things. So think about these acts before you criticise him for stating...

    Your most expensive knife...

The most expensive knife I own is an SWC bushcrafter (about £250), but it was a gift from my mother. Contrasting with that probably the most expensive knife that I bought was a frost mora :o

Fire challenge - under water primitive fire!

OK, I went away and thought about this, and this thinking extended to a trip to the coast, where I went on a semi-submersible trip. Y'know, the touristy ones with the glass floor. Anyway, while on this semi-submersible I lit a fire underneath a billy can of water. Does this count? :lmao: :lmao...

    knife making

I would anneal it first, then shape it, then heat treat and temper it. I use this process on old file blades which are as hard as anything. It seems to work well as long as you take care with each process.

Fire challenge - under water primitive fire!

How about this... First, I lit a fire. Taking a bit of smouldering char cloth from the fire, I plunged it into water. It kept on smouldering for about twenty-two miliseconds before it went out. No 2: I then realised that this was not lighting the fire underwater, so I thought about a plan...

    New Forest

Where I live near Peterborough in Northants, There is a large-ish forest that is mainly coniferous plantation which is very dense and difficult to walk through. Broadleaf trees need more suface area as they need sunlight, unlike coniferous trees, which can be very closely packed together. Also...
