New 'bushcraft' ventile smocks on evilbay.....

Ah thanks - now why couldn't I find that when searching! :o So anyone bought one? They look very good and to make your own to that spec, I reckon wouldn't be a lot less....

New 'bushcraft' ventile smocks on evilbay.....

No connection to the guy, but anyone bought one of these? He looks to have four different designs on there at the moment, one wool lined and one of a thick grade of ventile. Interesting design. Looks well made. Anyone got one...

My first hidden tang - for my brother!

Cheers for your comments guys. Going from scales to a hidden tang was certainly a learning curve. But I think most of my knives from now on will be hidden tang - less mechanically to go wrong. Especially as my tangs as almost as thick as the handle!

    I've been a busy bee!

Here's a selection of sharp stuff I've made over the last 12 months. All users. The massive antler handled bowie doesn't see much use, I'm waiting for the revolution for that to come into it's own.

My first hidden tang - for my brother!

First let me say a big thankyou to Xunil for his advice and guidance, as well a a nice peice of S30V. Hope you like it, it's a gift for my bro. Blade: 4.5 inch cutting edge, 5mm CPM S30V blade with distal taper, full flat grind with cryo heat treat by Mick Wardell. Bolster: Hydrogen...

    L28 Ventile!!

Thanks John - that's really helpful! Will do as everyone suggests and start mucking about with some sheets!! Does anyone have any experience with the L28 ventile? It looks pretty heavy compared to the usual stuff used for civilian clothing. Will stitching be a nightmare?

    L28 Ventile!!

Sorry that was a reply to Highbinder! Thanks Ogri. So you think £20 is too steep? It is the L28 ventile which is very heavy and thick ventile - the stuff they make army tents out of, so I think it is a reasonable price - anyone else any ideas? See here for spec comparisons...

    L28 Ventile!!

That is an excellent idea! But given my appalling sowing skills, it would probably take me 100 man hours to get 'dialled in'!! A slightly more planned approach, will I suspect, be better for me, as I have no real tailoring skills..... Even then I think I will still do a mock up first as you...

    L28 Ventile!!

Ahh! That makes sense! Would a one metre width work with this pattern though? Might not be wide enough?!. Do you have the pattern handy or was this a improvised 'suck it and see' project. Only, I wouldn't have a clue how to do a decent hood, and with over £80 material, don't want to muck it...

    L28 Ventile!!

Thanks Ogri! That smock looks perfect! But the diagram below it is fairly meaningless to me! I have thread searched, but most of the smocks are for something more complex or made of woollen blankets...

    L28 Ventile!!

Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to purchase 4 M of military spec L28 nato green ventile (100cm width) for just over £20/M. I am pretty sure the very heaviest weight ventile which normally isn't available to the general public, this is a pretty good opportunity! However, I need to know...

Filson Tin cloth shooting Jacket. XL.

Hi Red! Um pretty much anything outdoorsy really. Any Cegga axes going spare (seriously just a joke, just lusted after them for yrs). No, anything considered - I make knives in my spare time, so apart from axes, sharps aren't really required.... Cheers, Rich

Filson Tin cloth shooting Jacket. XL.

Hi All, I got this Filson shooting jacket for a complete steal on evil-bay for £60 posted. (Cost over £250 to get from America) It was such a bargain I took a punt at the sizing, because I am normally a large not an XL, and couldn't resist. Link here...

single layer ventile and something on top

Never had the problem of smelly paramo! Usually find the opposide - because it isn't waterproof, but relies on water seeping in then being 'pumped out', usually find it self-washing! Also because it is so much more breathable I find it less sweaty than gortex etc (in cool weather of-course)...

single layer ventile and something on top

My suggestion: Hilltrek Cotton Analogy. Got their Foinaven smock - ventile outer with paramo analogy pump liner. Combines better face fabric than normal paramo stuff (I too have been let down by paramo while doing the TGO challenge in high winds at altitude), with the breathability and...
