    Sleeping bag advice

picked it up earlier, packs away LOADS smaller than my 500gsm bag, this one seems VERY thin though. It's laid out on the bed for now to see if it puffs up a bit

    Frontline or Camping DD Hammock??

i used my travel hammock for the first time the other night. After using one i now wish i had bought the frontline :( First and only night using it i ripped the net (on the side with no zip, my own fault, was using it as a seat and didnt realise i was actually sitting on the netting) although...

Missing British backpacker found alive after 12 days in Australian bush...

maybe its just since i've been a member on here but would you not at least take a decent size knife and method of lighting a fire? at least with these 2 items you have a chance of making a fire for warmth and a signal? I know i wouldnt go for a hiking trip without these, doesnt matter if its a...

    A First For Me

I want to get out again, first time i went i just took my sleeping bag and tarp (first time i used that too!) Was fantastic, spent most of the time carving a spoon until it went dark and then just sat by the fire. Great stress relief! TBH the thing i was most scared of was bugs crawling in my...

    Frontline or Camping DD Hammock??

why not the travel? I've just bought one, although by that i mean i've only just paid for it so wont get it for a couple of days lol for me i picked the travel as you can use it on the ground too, so where ever you go at least you know you'll have some where dry to sleep

    Lightweight water carrying

in reply to the post above mine, i have a silly fast metabolism. (Have done since i was young) But also push myself pretty hard so end up walking at a pretty fast speed so will end up sweating alot, im guessing thats the reason for drinking alot? (generally if my legs aint hurting - im not...

    Lightweight water carrying

I'm quite a thirsty person too, i find i drink ALOT more than the "avaerage" person. For me i drink around 1 litre/1.5litre before i go then have a camel back with me along with an empty drinking bottle. For a short bimble (couple of hours, around 5 or so?) the camel is fine as you have to think...

    Spoon Carving

spoon looks fantastic mate, love the grain on the handle. Personally i've only made one spoon, was sat under a tarp in the rain bored with split wood i cut earlier. Looked at one bit and decided to make some tinder, the started carving a round shape, then a handle. In the end it became a spoon...

    The Purpose of Humans?

i've been thinking about this today too, not sure why :/ anyways i remember some one once saying that we are here as a prison sentance, for something we done in another life. When we die thats when our service is up. Obviously you would have to believe in alot of things for this to be true...

how to keep a fire going longer?

How do you keep a fire going for as long as possible? i normally either stack the wood on top or in a triangle shape, im guessing this is wrong though as it burns quite quickly! Can you make a fire that will last through the night and still have at least an ember for the morning?

    attempt at a spoon

Well went on my first solo trip last night, got there nice and early to set up my tarp for the first time (ALOT easier than i though, dunno why i thought it would be hard though) anyways, was collecting a load of fire wood and got tired so sat down for a bit, took one bit of wood to start...
