Curious to know, in an old Survival Aids catalog early 80s I believe they offered a watch with a compass..the watch I think swung out of the way to reveal a compass underneath and as far as I recall, it was EXPENSIVE! I lost the catalog and have not seen that for years. Can anyone recall this...
Question,
has anyone any idea of the company that used to make the old Survival Aids SAS type Ventile smock?
Silvermans also sells a ventile smock but any idea who the manufacturer is without buying the smock?

Hi!
Someone mentioned how they thought about designing a reversible jacket/smock with one colour one side the other a different colour.
Question,
I read once where the Royal Marines had a hooded nylon jacket and trousers, olive drab on one side and Arctic white on the other. Has anyone worn...
Mikey P..thanks for taking time to post pic! Also thanks for tip on getting larger size...roll up sleeves and more air circulation and gain the tape tip on buttons! The design layout is a sound idea.

Thanks for feedback and links and pic! I did get ahold of a cotton mesh tank top made in Sweden and the mesh idea does work! It also works under a cotton tee in the summer..you do feel a bit cooler! Agree on the poly issue and the stink factor!

Thanks everyone! I prefer cotton/ventile as an outer garment covering. I like the SAS smock design with pockets and attached hood...Mikey P is right when he confirmed how useful the huge pockets are! Was also looking at one of the Falklands era parka DPM but removing the liner from it...the...
Has anyone here worn what is called mesh underwear/fishnet underwear/string underwear? The open mesh design allows sweat to escape and allows venting . I saw one time where something was advertised as a MoD string vest...used in WWII!
Any user feedback and where does one get this stuff?

Thanks Mikey P!
Yeah, if you could post a pic!
So windproof smocks are still issued by MoD? I thought they were no longer on issue! Interesting...I did not know there was a RIP-STOP Ventile cotton available.
Any idea if the Falklands DPM parka is still issued?

Has anyone here used those Lundhags boots with the rubber bottoms? Do they dry out and crack? How are they to wear?
Also, ages ago, I saw on Lundhags site a pullover anorak in a poly/cotton mix, gray color with map and two side pockets and Lundhags logo on the shoulder but it seems to have...
If you do obtain Ventile and cannot sew, how do you locate someone who is a good hand at sewing? Any suggestions or guidelines on locating a reputable seamstress?

Thanks for replies! Strider, what does the label say in your used one that you bought from the surplus store?
It's just that I do not want to spend the funds on a Far East copy or rip-off!

Hi!
Has anyone here ever attended any classes at John "Lofty" Wiseman's school or at Eddie McGee's survival skills school? I have read that both of these UK instructors had/used to have an outdoors skills school but have not heard of anyone commenting on their experiences. Any info or ideas...
Hello!
Any folks here make their own Ventile jackets/smocks? How did it turn out? Can you sew the Ventile with nylon thread or the sewing thread has to be of Ventile material as well so that if the garment gets wet the Ventile thread will swell too to keep out the rain?
