Don't want to say too much about the site as we really shouldn't have been there. Didn't realise until too late that it was actually a SSSI. Perhaps we should have guessed from the unusual vegetation etc, but hey, it was dark and raining.

Try soaking the green wood in very salty water for a week or so (depending on how thick the wood is) and then rinse the salt off. I've used this method for some hawthorne spoons and it works fine.
Oh, and remember to give your tools a good clean and oil after using them or the salt will assist...

Alternatively, pack the butter in an oak tub and burry in your local bog. That should keep it fresh for a few thousand years... I kid ye not. Just google 'Bog Butter'.

Not sure. But consider this: for honey to be sold it has to meet trading standards which include, if I remember rightly, maximum levels for water and sucrose. It should be 'honey' then and 'ok' for wound treatment. But many honeys for sale in supermarkets contain "a mix of EU and non EU honey"...
