Guided sharpening systems - user feedback? Likes, Dislikes?

The top of the thread underneath the Allen head is bushed out to 9.5 mm to match the bore of the top clamp so it’s a tight fit.

Guided sharpening systems - user feedback? Likes, Dislikes?

I use a second hand lansky that I bought on here a few years ago but I’ve modified it with an adjustable Rose joint bearing instead of the slots, and with the clamp screwed to a base. It works ok considering it was a no budget project.

    ESEE 6 itch

On the face of it Esee seem to be quite expensive for what are fairly basic and relatively cheap materials such as Micarta and 1095. but once you factor in their “if you break it, we will replace it” warranty, they’re probably quite good value for money if you intend to really use the knife. I...

    Mini-skrama mini project

Everytime someone puts a link to varusteleka I take a look around and see stuff that I want. Somehow they even make fish cock sound like something I need in my life. :D The Korpisoturi knife looks interesting too. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/rokka-knives-korpisoturi/64168

    need a boot upgrade, ideas?

I’ve been wearing the field boots from William Lennon/ruff lander on and off since March, just the occasional long dog walk so far, nothing too taxing. They are pretty solid feeling and made from good materials but the stitching in places could be improved. This area I’ve been a bit underwhelmed...

    Yew Berries?

I find them very sweet but a bit flavourless. Not unpleasant though. The juice has a sticky consistency like syrup. Oh and make sure you spit out the seeds, they are poisonous don’t you know. :D

    Micarta colour.

I learned that I have to put my nicer knives to work straight away otherwise there’s a danger I’ll just reach for a Mora and they will never get used. The skelf was feather-sticking the day it arrived.

My skelf with the darker Micarta.

    Micarta colour.

It’s great! It carries like my old Esee Izula 2 I used to use all the time, only it slices better and doesn’t need stropping every 5 minutes to keep the edge keen. I think I’m a Kydex convert now too.

    Micarta colour.

There’s some cracking knives in this thread. I do like the look of the lighter coloured micarta. I think it would look great with dark pins... and orange liners. :)

    Good fjallraven 'trouser' alternatives

Ive had some montane terra trousers for a couple of years - very light and comfortable for extended walks, hiking and climbing but I’ve only used them a limited amount in the bush and off trail (bramble dense) trekking. Very nice for extended moving about in. Id agree with the Snikers trousers...

    Samurai js300 saw review

Ive been using one of these for work for over a year now and they are brilliant saws for the price. I’ve taken some large limbs off a willow recently and it still cuts through like a knife through butter. Highly recommend them.

D2 and a bit of damp

That’s quite bad for a semi-stainless steel. My real steel Luna (D2 blade) has got soaked by rain a few times in the short time I’ve owned it and I’ve never gone out my way to dry it. There’s barely a blemish on it.

    M77 Norwegian army boots sizing

I reckon so but don’t take my word for it, Everyone’s feet are different. The next size down only reduces by 7mm. I’m a size 10 in trainers and like you 9.5 in most boots, I’d go for the eu42 for my feet.

    M77 Norwegian army boots sizing

I think even taking winter sizing into account; wearing extra thick/double socks they are still about 1/2” too big. Should’ve got EU42 (263mm) maybe?
