Micarta colour.

What do you folks think of this colour of micarta? I use a much darker brown normally but I bought this in because of a customer request. I'm wondering about also using it going forward but I'm not sold yet. It's kinda yellow/wheat looking.

The second picture is my usual micarta for comparison.

Thanks! Yeah I find the burlap or courser ones to be a bit more striking than the fine linen micartas. I've seen some cool ones recently with copper wire weaved through it too.

True, both paper and linen don’t do it for me. I’ve got a knife by Mike Reid, Pie In The Sky that’s made of Harris tweed micarta. It’s striking.

Oh wow! I'm in Harris a lot visiting family and I'd never even considered that! I've never got along with paper. I always find that when I'm shaping the handles, the scales get impregnated with the pin material. Really annoying. Also whatever resin is used absolutely stinks when you're shaping it and makes your eyes sting. Phenolic I think was the stuff used in mine.

I like both. The darker leathery one is classic looking and conservative. The tan is a more gent-ish butterscotch and less brooding.

Less convinced by copper pins ... though maybe the verdigris will set the scales off nice.

Here you go. The Harris tweed is on the top knife with the 3/4 distal tapered tang. A lovely knife to use.

Then a Warren Smith with hessian and hi-viz jacket micarta, and lastly a hessian micarta, also by Warren.




Denim can look good too.

There’s some cracking knives in this thread.
I do like the look of the lighter coloured micarta. I think it would look great with dark pins... and orange liners.

It’s great! It carries like my old Esee Izula 2 I used to use all the time, only it slices better and doesn’t need stropping every 5 minutes to keep the edge keen. I think I’m a Kydex convert now too.

Great to hear! I also owned an Izula 2 and had the same issues. It also had too much belly for me. Yeah I like kydex for these but I'm looking into leatherwork for my bigger knives at the moment due to so many people asking for it. The Americans seem to go for kydex more but I suppose leather is more "woodsy". I didn't really fancy it holding moisture against a high carbon steel but there you go. Time for me to research!

It's awesome to see one that's been used! I've been sent a few pictures on IG from customers with theirs, and they're so clean that I suspect some folk don't put them to work! I have been known to be a knife fondler myself though so I understand! Thanks for posting man!
