What wildlife did you spot today?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Didn’t get a photo but I heard a lot of seagulls making noise looked out of the window and across to the neighbouring house on the roof was an adult heron.

We live near a pond, seen a baby heron on my fence many years ago but the adult was impressive.

female red deer. 20ft away. Came out of the forest while I was sat in my van. I watched it for a couple of minutes then I tried to get a photo. it was too late. I was so transfixed the picture idea came too late x

Proper Bambis in Petworth Park at the moment, I will take some pics. The new mothers are getting confused by my long legged Jack Russell and twice have come within about 15’ to see that their ‘foal’ is ok before realising and bounding off.

Have also found a Kingfisher nest site in a low sandy cliff at a stream I visit. Definitely some twittering from one of the holes.

They are Fallow, meant to type fawns. Familiar with the word Doe.

Here are some of the Boy deers. ;)

I’ll be out there this afternoon, will see if any I can get any pictures of the Bambis and their mummies. :D

Yesterday morning we had four young Green Woodpeckers around - probing in the ants nests and up trees ....

Yesterday afternoon all hell broke loose when a Goshawk flew through chasing one of them - they did a very fast circuit of what passes as our garden and flew off with the woodpecker making a hell of a racket - I lost sight of them so have no idea of the outcome. That is positively the longest I have been able to watch a Goshawk for - magnificent large birds :)

Our French Partridges have had a family; the most cute wee balls of fluff ever.

I am hoping to get a picture but they are doubly shy now.

(Not bad for some birds introduced this year by a shoot over the river...)

Yesterday...a couple of Yellow Wagtails catching insects just below a small waterfall. And then occasionally disappearing behind a grass curtain on a small hard-to-get-to rocky ledge, to feed the littluns I assume. They were taking insects from the air and also checking out the shallows. They seemed quite unconcerned by me sitting 10m or so away. Peaceful...

Several dragonflies emerged from our pond over the last few days, darters I believe. Excuse the awful photo, I was trying to get close whilst not falling in!

no wildlife sighting worth mentioning lately, BUT i caught a group of poachers walking past my cameras a few weeks ago which allowed the land owner to take action... (i also caught him and his son walking past the cameras, thinking they can sneak around on their land without me noticing :P )
a week ago he showed me two short clips of a puma seen that day on his cattle farm (where i'd been the day before...)
