South West Bushcraft Show.

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I was just about to post this myself. Good job I checked out what's new!
Not much detail as yet, I don't have Facebook which is where I guess perhaps more details are shown.
I shall be going, all being well and good. Though will have to book a hotel or something for Sunday night, as there are no buses my way on Sundays. Have to see if I can arrange a lift, or interest someone localy to go, and share costs...(small hope!)
No hammocks or fires, even off the ground sadly, and on the edge of an industrial estate, but beggars can't be choosers, and us south westerners need to support local events, as most seem to be hundreds of miles away.
Wonder if it's the same lot that did the shepton mallet one a year or so ago?
Wasn't too impressed, but hopefully they've got themselves together a bit more and learned from the feedback. They have to start somewhere I guess.

Unless low entry fees means no facilities.....

Is anyone from the organisers here I think we would all like to hear more about it? I want to go and keen to support if I knew what I was driving to.

The organisers seem to be Devon and Cornwall bushcraft. If I get time, and remember, I might give them a bell today, and see what I can find out.

Just walked my talk, and phoned straight after I wrote this, got answerphone, so left message asking them to phone me back this evening. We'll see what comes back.

Well, I've had the call back, and a lovely chat with the chap, who I forgot to ask his name. He has a lot planned, and several well known names, and bushcraft schools are coming, there will be catering, and a band on Friday. It won't be the boom boom stuff thank goodness! He rather rattled stuff off, so I couldn't write it all down, but I think from what he says, it is well organised, and will be good. Most info is on face book, but he will update the website as soon as he is able. I've asked him to post some details here if possible. So it's a goer for me.
Lots to do, and a few places to spend a bit of cash on kit if you want. Sounds great and worth going to. See you there!

Glad you got a response, I've had no reply to my email asking the same thing.
He is busy running classes this weekend, as he runs a bushcraft school. He was busy doing deer butchery when I rang this morning, which is why he didnt answer straight away, as his hands were covered in blood! so I guess he'll get round to it soon.
We talked for about 15- 20 mins, so it might be a job to put it all in an e mail!

A shame I won't see you this year. I can't make the moot. Its just too far now. As is the wilderness gathering. Though I do keep in contact with a few gathering friends, I shall realy miss seeing them every year, maybe I'll make some new ones to add to my circle.
Perhaps you can come for a visit sometime again. I've almost finished decluttering the spare room, and getting a new duvet and pillows for it, so it will be ready for guests again soon. I warn you..it's a very pink room now! :)

Hey all,

With many thanks to Woody Girl I have found this thread! I run Devon & Cornwall Bushcraft & we're running this event (apologies Falstaff, I can't see your email!). This is the first year that we're running the event so yes, it may not be perfect and require improvement in future years, but the aim of the show is to bring the community together at a reasonable cost. We have had a fantastic response from businesses throughout the country as as some of you have pointed out, I'm now regularly updating the attendees list on the website.

I setup Devon & Cornwall Bushcraft in 2018 so we've been running for a while! We were putting on this show with Newhaven Coppice in 2020 but had to cancel two weeks before due to Covid! It's taken a long time to build up the strength (and funds!) to run it again.

The venue isn't rural, we were hoping to run it at our woodland site but logistics made that incredibly impractical (and expensive!). It's now at Newton Abbot Rugby Club, which is flat, easily accessible, has shops nearby, a bar (which is open as late as we want), a marquee for the talks, toilets & showers.

I've booked a coffee van (they can bring more if needed), plus the club sells coffee so there's no shortage there, plus they do catering. I also have another catering company coming along (I'm awaiting confirmation on gluten free).

Tickets are available on the gate on the day (or on the website) but we're asking people to book camping in advance.

If anyone has any questions you're welcome to get in touch directly on 07801400628 (please leave a message & I'll call back (I'm usually busy running courses etc)), or email swbos@devonandcornwallbushcraft.co.uk.

Best wishes,

Jono Holland
