    Foraging and Homelessness

Stig, I'm sorry if your experience of homelessness has led you to believe it is a choice. My other half did not choose, at the age of 17, to lose his fiance, become estranged from his family, lose his job, lose his college course and then lose the pokey little flat he called home. He had not...

    Selling our forests !!!!!

I'm pleased to say that recent developments are indicating this isnt going quite how the government had hoped... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthcomment/geoffrey-lean/8097935/Dont-sell-our-woodland-walks.html

    Foraging and Homelessness

Rumi, your work sounds like it takes an approach that would be fantastically beneficial for people in vulnerable situations. I agree, the way in which we learn and approach BC in general could greatly benefit people with mental health issues. Being able to feel useful, and feeling a sense of...

    sleeping bag care?

When my other half was still homeless he was fortunate to be donated a very good sleeping bag- good for extremely low temperatures and could squeeze 2 people in if you didn't mind a forced cuddle all night. We still have it and don't want it to go to waste, but it got a fair bit, shall we say...

    Jam??

Ordinary sugar isn't enough. Jams only set if the fruit used in htme has enough pectin, and I'm pretty sure most eating apples these days don't have enough. You can get adde3d-pectin sugar, and also pectin as an additive in a bottle as well, if you can't find the right fruits.

I used to get these for the office; a great way of avoiding the mound of cakes and biscuits people bring in all the time... although I still can't resist the homemade quiche one very kind member of the office sometimes makes for us! The only reason I stopped getting them is because of cost; but...

    Snails

Didn't I read somewhere recently that some archaeologists have found evidence that snails may have been the earliest "farmed" food animal?

    Snails for quick food

I can't comment on personal experience, but over in the village my parents live in in Spain, a hard rain is generally followed by large groups of locals out hunting for the baby snails, which they pop whole into paellas etc. To be fair, I can't vouch for this being for taste, or if it is just...

    Foraging and Homelessness

Now that, I totally see your point with. I guess I would see bushcraft as an alternative for those times when there are no other options; when there is no room at the shelter that night and it's Winter, and you need something hot. Knives are definite;y not good to carry around, but I know my...

    Useful website maybe?

Awesome! I have to say, some of the website recipes sounded great; it also really surprised me how MUCH stuff there is out there to forage!
