When my other half was still homeless he was fortunate to be donated a very good sleeping bag- good for extremely low temperatures and could squeeze 2 people in if you didn't mind a forced cuddle all night. We still have it and don't want it to go to waste, but it got a fair bit, shall we say, grubby, while he was on the streets. Can anyone recommend how to get it cleaned? I don't want to risk matting up the padding inside.

If by padding you mean synthetic then just take it down the laundrette, if it's down then you can still wash it the same (with a down wash liquid) but you need to take some time over the drying part. A couple of tennis balls in the dryer does the trick by breaking up the soggy lumps of feathers as it dries.
