As proficient as a butcher bud! :11doh: Only joking.

It doesn't take much to do that at all, I put an axe through my left thumb when I was learning as a nipper.

Hope it heals well and glad you were not half way down Loch Sheil when it happened! I'm kind of curious about that one, if you were, do you think you could have paddled out ok as you really were lucky it happened in an accessible spot.

A butcher is a highly skilled job thanks ;)

Oh aye Once i strapped it up with a little help it dint bleed much I only lost three tinny drops in Stuarts car so im sure i could have paddled back to my put in point and call for assistance :approve:

cheers Russ

Never mind the grieves Andy, I think they're wondering about chainmail breeks for me.

Well Mary.

I am in the process of trying to make a set of mail chaussess( or what ever they are called).
Think there might be more of a use for them in the bush than doing Medieval re-enacting.

When I get them finished I will let you know and you can use them when needed.Lol.

B.T.W. Happy new Year to everyone.Hope you all have a good one.

As usual a great chilled out meet, and when I say chilled I mean it. I took the ice blocks out of the cool box at night, left them out overnight and they had froze enough to put them back in next morning. The site was brilliant and the company was fantastic as usual, met some old faces and some new ones. Just to add a few more pictures for you all to see. Some when the sun just coming up over the hill, a front view from the chute, a rear view and sunset at the site.

Hi all....just want to say thanks to all for a great few days and special thanks to Mary for organising the parachute as base camp. Have to say Comrie Croft is a great location....you have the wild camping aspect along with facilities which were handy as I had some friends turn up to stay over for a night who probably arent, yet, into the total wild side of camping. Looking forward to going back there soon....it's a great base to do walks from or get out on the mountain bike as they've got several kilometers of marked routes.

I think I remember some of Hogmany lol ...playing with the fire poi poi was great....definately going to get a set and practice not hitting myself!

Stuart, who came up with his 2 kids for a night, was very impressed with the set up....he didn't really know what to expect....and was especially impressed with peoples generousity....giving up their time to spend time with him and his kids showing them how to use the bow drill after making a set themselves. And he got fire on his third attempt...which was great considering how cold everything was. Big thanks to everyone who helped!

I've not seen the pics Stuart took but I'll get them and put some up here.

Hi Warthog,
Boots mate boots, hope you are the mend mate.
Topknot.

Wouldnt have made the slightest bit of difference apart from contaminating the wound :sigh:

The surgeon said it was a very very sharp axe that did it :D
I took that as a compliment coming from a surgeon saying that my tools are sharp :D
He said its normal for a axe would to have a fair bit of bruising around the surrounding tissues but I had non :D

Im healing well thanks :)

cheers Russ

Russ I hope that you are mending OK!

Thanks, y'all, for sharing a wonderful outing with the rest of us. Looks like y'all enjoyed the frosty trip with good food and fellowship. Who is who in the pictures? Who does the cooking? Who shared crafts with the others? Who had the best topics of conversation around the fire?

The cooking was pretty much a shared thing Gordy I had made a huge pot of stew, one of the other fellas made a huge soup/stew mix, depending on how much water was added. Toddy made some terrific cheese scones on Sunday, most of us made our own breakfast but shared out the food when it came to lunchtime and dinner at night. We all seem to take far too much food to these things but at least no one ever goes hungry. There were demonstrations and tutorials by some of the guys on the bow drill fire by friction and several folks were able to make their own kits for the future, myself and Doc took along our night vision gear for folks to see and play with. Conversation ranged from all sorts of subjects, such as the military, shooting, basket making, recipes, war wounds, fishing, and a lot about temperature as you can imagine. Of course Russ's exploits the previous day was a topic returned to time and again. Also as you would expect there was a lot of chat about kit and our preferences in it.
