I have not been to this area yet but do plan on doing so but a book I have read Running With Raindeer by Roger Took (amazon link below) might be off interest.

This gentleman spent 10 years or so travelling to the Russian Lapland and gives a pretty good picture of that region after the fall of the iron curtain.

Just reading that one at the moment - Borders have got it in their '3 for 2' offer. It is an excellent read - the historical aspects were surprising. It would give you an idea of attitude, geography, met, people demographic groups, but virtually nothing on bushcraft aspects. Shame - my only criticism but, hey, you can't please all of the people, etc, etc.

As for the lack of bushcraft critisism, and I know its hard to beleive, but bushcraft isnt the proccupation of the majority of the general population so i guess the author can be forgiven

Oh and while were on books, If you like 'the long walk' try 'as far as my feet will carry me' you'll love it.
