    Chain saw

Get a husky (or if you must stihl) those are the two best brands and are reliable, there is nothing more frustrating than a temperamental two stroke. Obviously you aren't' insane and are going to wear a helmet to protect your ears and face, steel toes and chainsaw kevlar trousers (your leather...

    Dont batton with your knife

Alot of the arguments on this thread are about using an axe- so what axe are you all using that is really the "proper tool" for splitting compared to a knife? If its a gransfors bruks small forest axe or similar I got to say that is not a good choice of axe for splitting- the blade is too thin...

    Dont batton with your knife

Ray Mears batons with his knife: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osxfQkz104A That is good enough for me. Tools are for using, and batoning isn't abuse if done with common sense.

Back out on the bunnies last night!

Its so much more than just 'killing'. Nobody would enjoy euthanizing a injured farm animal or something like that. I enjoy stalking, the field craft, the skill of making a good shot, and enjoy looking at a wild animal, being able to seeing its beauty up close. Taking it home and eating it...

    Salt Water Enema

How to prepare and cook Rabbit.

320cc is right, gut them quick. The other good advice I read in "Countryman's Cooking" by W.M.W. Fowler is when you joint it remove the pelvis, as this is where the strange rabbit taste comes from. After removing back legs slice down close to the pelvis bone from the saddle on each side, then...

    Long Lines

boatman yes I know about coiling the line in a bucket,I think it would be easy to bait up and fast to deploy but maybe a little dangerous.. Using circle hooks would make it a little safer though. Just bought that book so I will have a read. Santa sounds like some of the small feather sabiki...

    Long Lines

That's interesting, in this country it is legal in salt-water but people say its illegal in freshwater here? I think live bait would be an excellent idea, live sandeels or prawns could be deadly, and I know commercial longliners for bass use live joey mackeral, (that's a baby around 15cm)...

    Long Lines

This summer I want to set a long line with about 100 hooks, from a boat, using circle hooks, for whatever comes along. Does anybody want to share their experience doing this? Any hints or tips? I'm wondering about what bait (thinking squid strips or frozen sandeel), how to store the baited...

    Why fly fishing only?

I don't know about Minnesota or marshmallows, but I have found spinning for trout useless when the water is clear, and the sun is shining, fly will work. I have never tried marshmallows though! The biggest wild brown trout I ever caught had its stomach stuffed full of bread. It was caught in a...

    Spearfishing

To breath hold spearos it is unsporting. If you were just harvesting the ocean to eat I cant see a problem, if you can control yourself and manage what you have got. I imagine it would ruin the hunting experience being festooned with technology. FGYT have you tried scuba spearfishng? If so...

    Spearfishing

www.deeperblue.com is a great resource. For UK a 75cm gun is most versatile. Don't get one too big because the water can be so cloudy you cannot see the end of it! You are right, not illegal at all, and the most selective sustainable fishing method there is. Just don't use SCUBA and spearguns...
