Like some of you might know, I am a big fan of traditional and/or natural kit, but I do have my "green"kit too. This is to be used for everyday outings and for learning new things, so it things go wrong my really old kit is spared. You could say this is my BC-schoolbag.

It is an older Bundeswehr canvas rucksack, too which I some decorations to make it more personal.

On the belt are;
a canvas pouch with compass, a pouch with firesteel, a pouch with a pair of binoculars, 2 US canteens and a pouch for my camera.

On the outside of the sack;
- a Dutch army wool blanket rolled into a Dutch US-style cottoncanvas shelterhalf
- a First aidkit with some additions.

In the top compartment under the flap;
- a pair of Swiss army canvas gaiters
- one bright yellow emergencyvest

In the right pocket;
- 1 pair of Bundeswehr thin gloves
- a foldable pair of dark goggles for sun or snow
- a multitool with small ledlight, saw etc.
- a DC4 sharpeningstone and a maglitering for the axe, when not used, but still needed.
- a headlight
- a handkerchief
- a sewingset
- a noteblock with pencil in ziplock
- SAS survivalhandbook in ziplock
- firetin w/ lighter, tampons and tealight
- 30mtrs green paracord in bag

In the left pocket;
- a pouch with (a lot) of coffee, sugar and whitener
- a ziplock with 2 bags of soup, 2 hot chocolatemilk and extra sugar
- a bag of hard candy
- a small bag with salt and spices

The main compartment;
- a pair set of clothing (pants, jacket and Norwegian sweater)
- towel and toiletbag (soap, Nordic summer, toothbrush and paste)
- pouch with bungees
- older Bundeswehr poncho
- shoepolishset, wo which I added 2 woodcarvingknives
- Swedish army cookingset with a lot of extra's (NATOmug w/ lid, foldable mug. grid etc)

In the backcompartment I added the foambackingmat that comes with the current Dutchdaypacks, to which I added a double layer of aluminium backed insulating foam, stuffed in a flecktarn foragingpouch, whick I made myself.

I have room left for at least 2 days rations and the front pocket hasn't even been used yet!
The moraknife will be carried around the neck, since it does not fir thew webbingbelt.
This all weighs in at 15,4kg.

I will leave out the uniform jacket and sweater, but will add a wollen jumper.
I will also need to add an axe or saw, fuel for the cookingset, 1 canteen filled with water for immediate use, a small kit to take care of my feet (to aid with blisters, talcumpowder and clean socks) and most importantly my waterfilterbag.

This way i hope to stay under 20kg all in.

Ah, you have just enlightened me as to what a strap on my Norweigan army pack is for. Thanks for a good post, I like your kit! THe bright yellow emergency vest is something I have long thought about adding to my kit for any trip into the wilds. It wouldnt be much good being all olive drab and in a real survival situation, you would be pretty difficult to spot by would be rescuers!

Nice kit there!

I too like the drab earthy colours and the fact the bright red first aid kit stands out is a very good idea too.

My favourite bag at the moment is a WW2 gas mask bag in faded olive drab. Just big enough for a days wandering about.

Steve.

Ditto!! (that'll stop the skis dragging off the ground as I walk in future ;) )

RonW, great post & pics - thanks for sharing!

my womble day bag is a gas mask one too but mines a finnish army one ! a pure belter for £7 ,lol

No problem mate when I saw your comment I had a search had seen them a while ago and thought they'd be a good idea - they also do a decent laplander sheath

I use one of those as an every day "manbag". brilliant bit of kit for the price.

Ive also got a gasmask bag in faded olive drab, dont know what era it is. My mate was going to chuck it out so it was mine for free - best bargain ever! Its a good one to throw in your pack as a foraging bag or as you say a little wander day sack/"manbag"

Or do what the sheath is designed for. hang it on a button. Sew one on under your belt. hang the sheath on the button. The belt will den press on top securing it.
That is the traditional way of carrying a knife, and carpenters, lectricians and all other trades folk still carry the knife like that on their work clothes. Scandi designed woork outfits even come with the knife button.
