Something I stumbled across a while back, after wondering what I could keep my crusader cup in after using it on an open fire to stop the soot guffing up the inside of my bag. I wasn’t interested I. A tactical pouch or webbing pouch, and I wasn’t interested going to make something.
But then I came across these on eBay by a seller called ‘bayonet and Battledress’ who caters for the reenactment scene with repro stuff.
This dry ration bag (based on a ww2 pattern I believe?) works perfectly to store my crusader mk1 cookset, metal mug, bottle and plastic mug all all together. Keep the inside of my bag clean and is light. It also doubles up as a handy dishcloth (they do shrink in hot water though!!)
Anyway, sharing in case anyone else doesn’t like soot all over their kit!
Here is the eBay link
And a couple of photos
A new ration bag

And my (not sure how old one, couple of years maybe?)

Anyway, easy to make but as this is cheap and my time is more precious it works for me!
