Ok, inappropriate for a Tengu, but

That looks lovely Tengu, don't have my book "The Samurai Sword" by James M Yumoto to hand, but the kissaki (tip) looks lovely.

Is it Japanese or Japanese styled by any chance?

edited to add; the release mech looks a wee bit similar to those on the Gunto (mass produced WWII katana).

Its indeed a barrel knife, Paul made it more of as an experiment than anything else.

I got it off him at the Knife show, he hadnt it on display or anything.

I swapped it for one of my Japanese blades. (He likes them as much as I do) I couldnt dream of affording one!

It would retail for about £100 if you wanted one.

Well I'm absolutely gobsmacked. You don't see these so often, but a couple of weeks ago the in-laws came round to see the wife and they brought with them a barrel knife and gave it to the missus because they knew she'd always wanted it. Apparently it's a family heirloom and they'd found it while turfing out stuff when they sold a house in Antequera. Your one looks a bit smaller Tengu, but in much better shape and it was probably a better example to begin with. Lovely find!

Buy smarties in a tube, eat smarties, replace smarties with pen knife/SAK.

Et voila - one instant barrel knife!
