The Rainy Side of the Lakes.
On my recent trip to Loch Shiel, I had the same problem as on past trips, ie good hammock sites being few and far between. There were however, lots of shingle and sand beaches and small clearings amongst trees unsuitable for hammocks.

What I'd like is suggestions for a freestanding ( including the porch if possible ) tent, that pitches flysheet first, 2 - 3 person with good headroom and a decent sized porch. These stipulations probably mean a geodesic dome tent, but ideas are welcome. Not weighing a ton and a small pack size would be nice to.

Cheers, Michael.

What I'm looking for is a freestandinding tent, ie one that does not normally need guylines to retain it's shape and remain upright.

Cheers, Michael.

There's the decathlon ( there may be other brands) tents you just throw on the ground & hey presto, it's pitched, a few pegs if you wish but no guy lines, not packable as when folded remains a large disc.......apart from that I think all tents, dome or ridge, need guy lines but guy lines don't retain the shape nor keep it upright, prehaps you're thinking of poles.

nah the ones i posted dont need the guys. unless it gets windy. and then your tent transforms into an expensive box kite.
