You have a knife - carry a First Aid Kit!
Dressings also make great tinder so all you need for fire is a decent bit of flint or Quartz (assuming a real ie Carbon knife) and the hand cleansing gell burns well with the cotton wool
The Pot perm in the FAK will also sterilize water.
Dressings and bandages can also be used as lashings - so you have shelter covered as well.
Lots of uses on top of these if you are realy pushed!

I have heard of this thing of which you speak, I wasn't issued with any and there never seems to be any for sale in the classifieds
Lol, apparently I was issued with excess and Pinky wasn't issued with any - all he's got has been accumulated through years of trial, error and experience
I'd say a cool head under pressure. you know the kind of chap who when lost makes a cup of tea
