Hi all,

Quite often I get asked what is the best / most useful piece of kit I use on expeditions is. After much thought I have chosen my Big True North Tarp, and then have done a write up on it in my blog http://elementseu.wordpress.com

So the question is, What is your best piece of expedition equipment??

I look forward to hearing you thoughts

it has to be my blade, be it my hand made or mora clippa, with out a blade i am nothing, tarp, tents and stoves i can do with out, as long as i have a blade, i can even if it takes a little time longer, do almost any thing with just a knife. make fire and shelter and all with just 3 or 4 inches........lol......

and of course as craig said the knowledge to do it all......

regards...

Mmmmmmhh difficult to pin down to just one item ....... a lot of sense in what lannyman8 says regarding a good knife but I'm also pulled towards my Hobo, cooking, sterilising water, hot brew, heat light. Yeh I'm with Wayland on this my hobo.

Sorry to those who don't like my 1st post..... but thanks to the rest who have taken part and made me feel welcome.

I got the Tarp from Jed Yarnold who lives down the road from me (Witney, Oxford) as I canoe with him some times. You can contact him via my blog.

Interesting how your thoughts can change, I had taken knowledge for granted and my knife is always with me. But do agree knowledge and knife allow for everything else to be possible. Having said that my tarp does rock, its next outing is on a 7 day canoe expedition in Scotland in early January :)

What else do people hold dear to them whilst on a exped??

warm clothing lol

but seriously my best bit of kit has to be my knife, as long as its sharp you can make almost anything!!

and as uncle Ray says its the most important tool in bushcraft

I'm usually out to take photos so I'd have to add my camera as it's often my prime objective.

Having said that, the photography is just my way of connecting with the landscape and I think that connection is a lot older than my photography. I'm always watching the light.

Blacks Mountain Tent without doubt for shelter, mine withstood anything Snowdonia threw at it anytime of the year and just stayed pitched with me dry inside.
