That is such a shame ... I used to love watching his programs (all be it in German!) ... as you say, a true outdoors man.

i'm shocked to hear that... he was one of my heroes and one of the reasons i went to OZ; used to watch all his documentries... . i had the rare privilege to meet him twice: first time in november 2002- i went to his crocodile park in broome, he guided the tour himself(he was a really cool guy!) and i was granted the honor of a photo together with him. second time was in jan2006: my aborigine wwoofhost asked me to pick something up for him from the plumber's shop and the customer in front of me was... .

Yeah I heard about it too. He was an inspiration and a fountain of knowledge. And I love the almost 'amateurish' (in a good way) production of his shows.
