Where to get wood for helve?

Hi all, I've a Double bit axe head on route to me, just wondering if anyone has a suggestion where I could buy some wood to make a handle from? I'm being a bit poo on the google and only seem to find single curvy type handles, looking for hickory. any help would be great.

Now I read this !
I had an old pick axe handle in the shed , and i'd picked up an axe head at the car boot recently, ...... thought that would do the job....

Did the main shaping with my Gransfors axe, but getting it whittled down to a good fit really is hard graft and time consuming, but i'll really struggle to break this one when its done!
Another day or so and it'll be done

Arrrgh! what i thought was the answer turned out to be a store located in the US of A with £21 shipping on a £5.44 handle, ok so back to asking for any help! Red if i've not found one by the time I move Aldershot I might take you up on that!

When you call past with your saw, you can try out that axe mate....and the matching belt axe....oh yeah, and the friction fit tomahawk Lee refuses to make any more

I need to stop looking NOW, I will be divorced and homeless! But at least i'd have my axe, I could build a new home, and women would come from miles around to see my cho.....nicely furnished cabin!

How do like the double bit, does it really feel a more balanced chopper to use?

Oh hell yeah. That Lee Reeves weighs less than 500g - its truly an amzing thing.

My main user now is a 3' long Gransfors double bit to feed my woodburning range. Its a delight to use. You'd be welcome to try them all

I used a broken one(i broke it) to re-handle an old elwell, i did post the pics on here, but the technowizardry defeat's me, so don't know how to get it up, well been married for a long time !

Oh well thats done it, in a years time i'll be living rough, kipping in the hedges and snuffling for truffles a cuddling upto a piece of curly maple craftsmanship, and it's all your fault BR. Actuly, I ran it past the Wifey and she was all for it something todo with being left holding the fort and deserving a treat, even commenting on how lovely the osange wood is and not minding one herself! yay, I guess if you don't ask you don't get.

Oh I know it, Exchanged emails and fully aware of the wait ahead of me, but at least it's something worth waiting for not to mention a good time frame to save, I had a trawl through you back posts, remembering something about about a mask you had had made, stunning work. that hawk is something else! Thank you for the pics. I'm gonna have to find lots of things to fill the time.

I'm in the process of carving a piece of oak to handle the Whitehouse splitting axe I got from a boot market last week.
The oak has been in my garage over Five years and it's hard going.
This is a picture of it when I got hold of it, it was riddled with wood worm.

The Hammer I re-handled with elm and is much shorter than in this picture.
