Homegrown charcoal in DIY shops

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Homebase are now selling UK produced charcoal, albeit at something like twice the price of imported charcoal (at £7.99 per 3kg bag).

Checked if B&Q are doing the same, and they are doing it at £5.98 a 3kg bag - annoyingly as I bought a bag from Homebase and then discovered I could have saved £2 by going to B&Q next door!

Hopefully if people start buying UK produced charcoal then increased sales may bring the price down a bit.

When I was in UK, I used to buy my charcoal at B&Q for my boat stove. If you keep your eye on them when they start their "end of summer Sale" type performance, the price of a big bag of charcoal goes right down, and split bags where they couldn't guarantee the weight were about third of the original price..I filled my son's garage up......

I saw that Jack Daniels have started making charcoal now!

You'll probably find a guy like me in your area.
I started making a retort kiln last year and now run when I can get supplied with good clean wood,
Just started baggin up for this year.
I'm currently looking for a local outlet to supply now.

No Way would I pay nearly £8 for 3KG…It would have to light itself, cook the food, and clean my ‘barby’ before I paid that!!!

I was going to say, all you need is some wood and a 45gallon drum and you can make as much charcoal as you want!
