I'm coming to London in a few weeks. Just a one week trip. Is there anything bushcrafty over there that I can't afford to miss?

I'm talking about great shops or little museums or secrets that you can't find on the internet and stuff...

Also, general recommendations (huge outdoor stores or just completely unrelated things) are more than welcome.

Touristy greetings!

Thanks for the info on the National Geographic Store in Regent Street, as I did not know it was there. I think I will have a wander over at lunch time.

There are lots of outdoors, camping & climbing shops in Covant Garden, which is where I have been spending a lot of my lunchtimes recently. Most of them are in Southampton Street, which is directly south of the market area (heading towards the strand). The shops include North Face, Cotswold outdoors and half a dozen others. Beghaus have a nice store a bit further north in the Seven Dials area.

If you're in Covent Garden you must visit Stanford's - the map shop. They used to say that if Stanford's didn't have a map of it, it hadn't been discovered yet. Great place for a browse and trip planning. It's on Long Acre.

I have just been to the National Geopgraphic shop at lunchtime & it's worth a visit. They have some lovely cloths & bags etc.. which are not cheap but some of it is very nice. They have a good sale on at the moment with quite a lot of stuff at 50% or 75% off; but it's one of those shops where you get 75% off and it's still £100.... Still I may have to go back after payday as there are some really nice coats there...

Glad it was worth the trip, and thanks for the heads-up on the sale.

Not exactly bushcraft, but if you have an interest in knives, the Japanese sword display at the British museum is something you won't forget.

Epping Forest? Get the tube out and head away from the roads, you can easily find really surprisingly wild places there.

My other fave place if you are in the centre and just need the sort of calm and quiet that I lack in central London is head for Southwark Cathedral on the South bank, 20 minutes in there will chill me out as well as 20 minutes in a wood.

Just found the answer to my own question. They are the same store but it seem they've got different stock. My wife was in there recently and she told me that they had loads of bushcrafty stuff and friendly staff. She was buying stuff for my son's survival camp last month.

Last time I was in the shop it was mostly military gear.

Just a quick question about the Eurostar: will customs confiscate any knife I have on me? I read something on their website about a £17.50 fee for "sporting and collectors’ weapons"...

I always have a Swisstool Spirit on me, do you guys think I'd better leave it at home?
