Hello

I am looking for a very good pair of walking, hiking trousers. I currently use standard light army issue trousers and find them very comfortable for long walks - 20 miles a day.

Does anybody have a pair of these cactus trousers and are they light enough for long treks.

Can you reccomend any other trousers ie Narrona, etc

Many Thanks

Edward

They also do a lined winter version of the kiwi thats on offer at Go Outdoors as from monday £20 down from £40. Bargain.

i have a pair of the shorts (see my review on the site)

they are by no means light, definately the thickest pants i own. I really like them, but they are heavy/tough/stiff material, better for rough use or bad weather than they are for lightwieght walking.

I have a number of cactus climbing items, all of which are superb design and quality, and cannot believe more people on here use their gear.

Like Fast but Dim, I've got a pair of their trousers. I can't remember which ones exactly but they're made from canvas. They are brilliant for crashing around in the woods but would not be my first choice for lightweight walking forays. I would suggest Fjallraven for those, even over the ubiquitous Craghoppers.

Cactus stuff is, as has been mentioned before, superb. Their packs knock spots off their compatriot ones at Macpac, in my opinion. They're a small company concentrating on excellence rather than global domination (!).

just out of interest, where did you hear of them?

I noticed their banner on the top of ukc forums a few yrs ago, but haven't seen it since.

Imo you would struggle to get better trousers for bushcaft than the dreadnaughts.

My first encounter with them was when I was in New Zealand. I bought my Dreadnoughts there and have since ordered rucksacks and gaiters from them. They've always been incredibly efficient about shipping to the U.K., so I continue to champion them.

Hi all

I'm thinking of getting me a pair of these. Could someone please tell me whether they're too noisy for stalking?

I'll probably get them anyway just for crashing about in the woods but would still like to know if they make much noise.

Thanks guys n gals.

they're probably a bit noisy for stalking until well broken in, i've had my longs a while and they still rustle. i've had the shorts longer (3 plus years) and although they are soft(er) from washing and wear they still make a bit of noise due to the texture of the fabric.

let me know if you get a pair, they are awseome. i've just spent 3 days in the lakes and only took mine off to sleep.

Wicked.. Going on the basis 'you get what you pay for' I was a dubious because of the price as they're only £87 including delivery. Reading reviews and such, they seem highly recommended. I'm mega close to making a purchase on these.

I intend doing the same type of thing, leaving them on constantly over the top of a pair of light and comfy polyester jogging bottoms. Are they really hardcore indestructible? and, does anyone know an equivalent garment for upper-body?

I'll probably place an order tomorrow.

As far as I can judge, they are pretty indestructible. As for upper body things, it's worth looking at arborwear.com. They make really, really comfortable trousers and shorts and their shirts are beautifully made from canvas - should hold up pretty well under most conditions.

i'd recommend craghoppers kiwi's they're pretty much bombproof, light, tough and they dry incredibly quickly as well

Nice 1 guys :beerchug: checkin' em out

lol. take it from me, craghoppers kiwis are playing at tough, not even close to cactus. think old school ks 100e from karrimor. the fabric isn't even nice to wear for the first ten washes!

I've got a pair of Supertrousers , they are virtually indestuctable , mine are nearly 4 years old and I have worn them everywhere. They only started to get really comfy after about 6 months, and their not something you would wear on a hot day, apart from that their awsome. I've got a pair of Cactus climbing glove's which are even older , their by far my favourites.

I would have no trouble recomending anything from Cactus to anyone.
