He said that he started the swing and then changed his mind, but instead of stopping it he let it go down without any force behind it. The weight of the axe and it's sharpness caused the wound
A blunt axe would probably have given him a bruise and not much else.
(Russ, if I haven't got that right, feel free to correct me )

Sorry wrong answer

What i can remember was swung the axe to spit a large ish round of timber and it split a little and I went to remove the axe from the split to take another swing at it and it freed itself quicker than I thought and I taped myself and got 14 stitches and two months on crutches as a reminder not to do it again
And id like to point out that I was in no pain at all with my scratch.

I should hopefully be able to make this one

I do know that instead of a venison dinner, after visiting you in Perth hospital Trisha and I stopped at the Chinese in Crieff and folks had fish suppers instead for Hogmany's dinner

Okay, all those into hurtling bits of wood powered by muscle and cat gut through the air.......Comriecroft said *Yes*

I've booked us for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please pay for your camping fees directly to Comriecroft. I'll deal with the hall fees and you'll all be really nice to me and pay your share when we get there At this rate of folks coming it'll be under a fiver a day, but maybe budget for that to be sure. I've asked from Friday night through to Sunday evening, so at most it'll be £10 and I really doubt it'll be that much.

If folks are learning, 15 to 20 yards between target and archer is fine. Behind the target its best if there is rising ground to stop any arrows. An arrow aimed up in the air might well go 400 yards or more, but aimed slightly downwards at a target 100 yards would be adequate on totally flat ground. Rising ground is much better though, and if you have this no particular distance is needed.

My target butt is 1metre square and it's quite hard to miss it at 20 yards, but we would need to think about the backstop.

Or you can rig up heavy blankets or netting suspended behind the target. Some archery is done indoors this way.

Before I commit or even ask if I can attend the "skills sharing weekend", I'll let him weigh me up on your behalf.

As ex army and a civvy chef, bad language and cooking are all I can bring to the meet really... no only kidding.

It looks like a good weekend but as I said, as a newbie, I'll let Locum76 make up his mind.
