Am now the proud owner of a pfd and a paddle.
Still no canoe though!

Half way there!

The impatient side of me would say, quick get out and buy one before the 18th.

The sensible side would say see if you can borrow one for the 18th then spend the day hopping in everyone elses canoe and trying each one to see which best suits your needs. You're very welcome to test out my black 16' Apache (black is the fastest colour you know! ).

Hopefully see you later this month.

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
My Pack's available for a spin as well Mark, she's a bit tippy though ;)

Tippy? Get away:rolleyes:

Meeting place / times etc. Just a suggestion for the 18th.
Meet between 1/3 and 1/2 way down the east shore, from memory there's some free car parks across the road. Nice gentle paddle down to Wild Cat Island (could follow the west shore and return on the east, depending on wind) for lunch then back up to the start point.
I'm happy to turn up a bit early (as I don't have far to go) and get some water boiling if you want a brew before setting off. How does 9.30 / 10.00 sound? Should be back for 4pm.
Did you want your bacon sandwiches for breakfast or lunch?
If anyone would like a shorter / different route, or alternative place to meet I'm happy to follow the crowd. If the above is ok with everyone, I'll find the free car park and get some coordinates for Google Earth.
My Yukon turned up this mornning so I'll get out over the weekend for a quick overnight camp and test its bacon buttie capabiliity!

Sounds like a plan to me Lee :)

I think I know the area you're talking about, nice shaley beach with parking opposite.

Rich,

Parking spot and the beach look right, can't remember that wee island though.

About here 54°20'4.74"N 3° 4'18.07"W look right?
I should be getting out in the tent on Sun/Mon so I'll have a drive down the east shore on my way out and get the exact coordinates for the car park.

I'll also paste together a list from here, sotp and facebook to see who might be coming when I get back from work later.

I'm sure I've missed someone and apologise in advance (busy night at work - brain not functioning properly at 3am!). Will get out this weekend and find the car park. I'll post directions (hopefully when I get back from camping) on Monday.

Regards, Lee

Finally I have some directions etc for Sunday, sorry it took so long

The car park is called Machells Coppice, plenty of room and best of all no ticket machine!! Just a short hop across the road to a small stone beach.

Directions from the top of Coniston Water, find the road that leads down the east shore, past Brantwood and the car park is another 700 yards on your left. If you want more detailed directions, drop me a PM.

Hopefully the water will be as still as it was this morning. I was thinking about putting in at 9.30 which would land us at Wild Cat Island (going the long way down at a slow pace) around 12. Back out of the water around 4ish.

I've decided to do the bacon sarnies for breakfast (this would save messing about half way through the day) so will be on the stone beach from 8.30 bacon grilling and tea water boiling

If you'd like breakfast and a natter before setting off this would give us an hour. If you want a lie in! see you at 9.30! Your lunch is up to you but I'll pack the Yukon in the canoe and can get the tea water boiling again for lunch.

I only have two cups and about 3ltr of water bottles. Can you bring a cup and if you don't want some Coniston water in your tea, some water too!!

It was a bit chilly this morning so given the same weather, no taking the mickey out of my warm hat!!

Look forward to a canoe invasion of Coniston and putting some faces to the names. See you on Sunday. :D

Rich, weather is looking great for the weekend, if it's like yesterday (http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=20486) then it should be a cracking day. Providing that :censored: Mink doesn't decide he can take on 20 canoes!!

Does anyone have a spare paddle for someone? I have a spare which I'll get oiled and bring with me for this person to borrow, but I don't think I've taken enough wood off the blank and it may still be a bit heavy. I wanted to try it and can always take more wood off later. Just in case mine is not suitable for a fellow Apache skipper to borrow.

Rich, that would be appreciated, thanks.

Thats the one I bought until I got round to finishing the paddle blanks but I'm quite fond of the £9 plastic one now!!

I'll make sure I chuck it in the car then Greg. You gonna get Lindz to pyrograph it ? :)

I don't have a spare paddle now Lee

Nah I have a custom on order that will be heading down to Linz for a bit of artwork.

I will have a spare paddle that I can bring with me.
