It's easily done in woods.
I managed to do something like that at Rough close in the dark.
Of course it had nothing to do with my choice of refreshment.![]()

They do one and the pin on one aswell. Might get that myself.
The current production Marbles compass is made in China and liquid damped.
The original US made ones are not damped though better made.
The Tru-Nord, in production for 70 years is undamped, made in Minnesota and rather nice.
I did a post on the pin-on models but the handheld button types are very similar.
