Yup. There was only one thing missing after ten (?) years off screen - the comedy :yuck: . Hopefully the next two episodes will make up for the disappointment of the first.

Not too sure thb, its been a while since I have watched it, will have to watch a couple more to make my mind up.

I think something thats missing is the canned laughter. I normally don't like it, but I grew up with read dwarf and it had the canned laughter. I watched the ones afterwards, the virus one where they are all in a western, that was comedy gold, so much funnier and faster.

Aiye, watched at a mates and we were quite looking forward to the new series- as Decorum said - what did they do with the funny bits?

Sadly disappointed really :(

Yeah we missed it too.

Believe me, you didn't.
My hopes weren't high, to be honest. The last decent series of Red Dwarf was series 6. Something happened when it went over to a different film stock, and the original actors (Clare Grogan) didn't even want to be in it.
I always thought series 2 was the best - it had that right mix of humour and pathos. And Queeg was the funniest episode.
Yeah, I watched the new Red Dwarf last night. But only because I knew I had to. Even the actors just seemed to be going through the motions. I get the feeling they only agreed to do it just for the work. Also found it quite ironic tha the two characters who shouldn't have aged (Rimmer and Kryton) seemed to have aged the most.
The whole thing was just a (poor) parody of itself.
I think they should just let it rest. And erase everything that came after series 6 and pretend it didn't happen.

i agree totally with this. I said to m partner as we were watching that it sounded empty without the canned laughter. Also, they were cutting camera angles a bit often for my liking, but im proll biased as im a pretty die hard red dwarf fan i guess. :)

(just moving my comments from another thread i started)

anyone else noticed the massive homage to blade runner?

I first noticed it with the cat making origami things

Hm, seems I was right,
not sure about the story line a bit sort of "desperate to get on telly" sort of feel,
they saved some very obvious pennies by using the Coronation street set.
a bit like the old Dr who always used to land in gravel quarries and solve problems on earth.

They've taken some the special effects up a notch, but did they need to?
unfortunately the script is lacking.
I'm quite disappointed really, a bit like the 1980's star trek movies filmed "on earth in the 80's".
I agree not funny, quite tired and they've aged too much to carry off the story-line.

the only funny bit's for me?
car bug, and the discussion about DVD's v Videos.

The Dave lister using the toilet script is straight out of an 80's stand up routine

and the "plugs" for the "Dave" free view channel were a bit cheap!:(
and was that product placement when they were looking at the DVD's? if so it's shamefully poor!

as for the canned laughter? some of red dwarf was filmed in front of a studio audience, you can see them in the "out takes".

there's no spirit in it:sigh:

Wow, I thought I was alone but everybody seems to agree with the fact that it was lacking in the humour and the "Dave-Dave Lister" thing must be the worst and cheap thing I have seen by a T.V. channel.
