The battery clock ticking artificially on the wall behind my head is innocent of sophistication. I long ago removed the second hand and the minute hand. I also removed the dial. The main face is a pierced china plate with a leaf pattern of twelve leaves. There is no glass. I have recently pushed the solitary hour hand back about thirty degrees, to a time that more closely reports the position of the sun than was the case for the last six months. This gives you some idea of my attitude to time.
My rechargeable digital watch cost all of £7 and changes by itself. I ignore the various random number generators that its system can show. They are labelled things like “steps” And “blood pressure”. These are wildly inaccurate but as I do not consult them nothing is lost.
I would refuse to use any tool that I did not understand and thus far the marbles are up to the challenge.
