altberg boots, please help!

iv had matterhorns, british assult boots, german para boots, haix and many others and NONE of them fit me properly! actualy i lied one pair of boots do fit me, a real cheap pair of fabric boots that iv had for years. im not sure if they are my shape or have just streched as i grew into them problem is is they are as waterproof as a siv and make my feet hurt after a few miles and on top of that now they are full of holes and thoughly nackered.

ok rant over lol basicly i have wide square-ish feet. from army cadets i high leg boots and iv noticed altberg do extra wide sizes. i grew to hate the gortex lining from my matterhorns which took forever to dry out and wore out neer the toe and leaked on me! maby altbergs will be right for me? lol

i like the look of the defender boots, iv got a few questions, is there any diference between the defender boots and the peacekeeper or warrior? reson being is that the nearest stockest to me only has these models so im thinking of trying these and seeing if they can order defenders or maby buy them direct from altberg.
which is better, the original or the microlite? from what i can see the original has molded soles (which im not too keen on).
and finaly does anybody ells have wide squareish feet like me and would they recomend the wide fit?
in an ideal world i would go to the factory and have them custom fitted but unfortunately being in sussex thats not an option.

I have a similar problem. I went to my local shop that stocks their hiking boots and got measured up. They are ordering the hiking boots for me to try. If they fit I will order a pair of the military boots in the same size. Thats my plan I hope it works!

I'd give the factory a ring and discuss what you want with them. When I bought my first Altbergs, I just ordered my usual size and then had to send them back because they didn't fit. A chat with the factory made sure I got not just the right size, but different boots better suited to my feet. I currently have the Patrol All-Weather HMX, which are cracking autumn/winter boots.

Before I went on one of Bliar's sandy adventures, I was able to visit the factory and get my desert boots (Microlites) fitted - including specially fitted footbeds. Not only are they amazingly comfortable, they still look like new. The previous pair of desert boots I had fell to bits after 4 months.

So, a visit to the factory is best, but if you ring you should still get a good result.

I think so, not enough grip for mud and like blocks of ice when on wet rocks - even when well worn in.
Some people think they're great though, so as ever "Your mileage may vary"

Altberg, say their "original" sole the skywalk is for hard surface use, and the microlite for more cross country, or off road. The difference between the defender and the peacekeeper, is the mid sole, with it being thicker/stiffer on the defender, which is also the only stock boot that is available in wide fitting.

All the others are only available in wde fitting to order, which takes about 6 weeks.

My personal favourite is the field & fell, with the skywalk sole, but i wear mine mostly on hard surface, which would wear out the microlite to quickly, as i'm heavy on the soles. Where as a collegue wears them no problem, and they are much lighter.

Mine are currently in being refurbished, new sole(2nd one) new front and lining, and they are a wide fitting.

Just got my field & fells back, took just over 3 wks for a full refurb, which is a new front(mine had split where the toes bend) a new lining, and a new sole.

This is the 2nd re-sole of these boots which are just over 3yrs old, they are "like" new again, and as long as the uppers hold out(not sure if they are replacable) they'll do me fine.

I spend a lot of time on my feet in an urban enviroment, so the boots do me good service, that a shoe never could.

I have also worn them on day walks, in the peak district, and other places, and they have never let me down, either "on or off road".

I find the skywalk a hard wearing good quality sole, that suits what is basicly an enhanced military boot, which has kept me(or my feet) warm dry and comfortable, for some times 18hrs at a time, advertisement over !.

They were originally designed for military use, for which Altbergs remain very popular.

Most police officers prefer to cut about in Magnums, ideal for form-filling in the police station. Tactical Firearms types seem to favour slightly bizarre boots such as the Adidas GSG9, for added ninja-ness and 'Princes Gate balcony' appeal.

Hi, have the field & fell, and have also had the peace keeper and defender models. Both the f & f and defender have a stiffer midsole than the peace keeper, which suites me due to a foot injury. The f & f, is also a higher leg boot.

The magnum, does allow sport shoe type performance, and i wore them myself in the early nineties, however i am now a dog handler(9yrs) and feel a more robust boot that can cope with anything the terrain or weather can throw at it is right for me.

I have a pair of the Gamekeeper boots are they are great.

Like you i had massive problems getting walking boots to fit. Fortunately i am only an hour away from the factory so when i arrived to collect mine they fitted them to me by adding bits of insole and heat moulding the heal to my feet.

I highly recommend them. I think mine have the skywalk sole and i find them gripy in all terains and weathers?

As other had said ring the factory. These people are craftsmen of old and will be able to help far more than we can.

About all they're good for. Bloody awful boots.
