Arktis HALO 3 Sleeping bag

I have been looking at sleeping bags and wondered if anyone had used one of these?

1220 HALO 3 Sleeping Bag. The bag uses ripstop outer and inner. It is the lonest bag on the market: will comfortably hold 6ft 5inch user., and is wider at the top than any bag we know. All seams are nylon-bound to prevent rot, and is in use with Australian forces operating in tropical conditions. The bag comes with own compressor sac, weighs one kilogram, and has waterproof foot section. Lined with quick-drying ISOTHERM 100. Rating is 35d F.

It looks like it packs down small from the looks of tings and weighs 2.2 lb/ 1kg. And is a decent size for taller/ bigger people. I am looking primarily at a 2-3 season bag (Spring - Autumn).

Arktis US site rates it to 35F/ 1.7C. Price is £88.03 RRP from Arktis price list.

Is it synthetic Moonraker? If so it looks very small to be 2-3 season. I don't do Fahrenheit. You could do with extreme and comfort temps as well to give a better idea. Just a thought.

I guess so Bill but Arktis do not give too much away on their web site :roll:

Lets say more that it is for use down to the stated rate of 35F which is about 1.7C. The season is a little different down here from the UK. It gets hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. I would look to perhaps get a specialist bag for the winter (sub zero) use. I want a bag for general use that packs down small, is built well and performs well within its rating and is big enough for me (191cm/ 6' 3"). I am very happy with my Arktis Windproof Smock and some other gear so I guess the build quality would be good and rip stop material sounds good for my use, hence why I am looking at this. Also that I can pick one up for £39.99 new But if it does not perform it is not worth any amount.

I have read reviews, comments on other bags but just wanted to get more info on this one.

I'm just not sure it will stretch to 3 season. I have a fleece liner for colder trips so in the summer you don't have to carry a big 3 season bag. If you are prepared to carry a liner later in the year then £40 sounds good to me. Small synthetic bags are difficult to get at that price.

Thanks for link Raz. Interesting review there. From what I can see it is really a summer bag, lightweight and compact. For anything close to 0C and it will need another step up to warmer bags or perhaps used as part of another system (MSS?).

For the that price it looks a good buy considering the build quality, size (for me), compactness when stuffed and low weight for normal summer use, which is a bit more extended down here, say April - October.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any further experience with this bag? Was think about using it for hotter climes. Was wondering how it would compare alongside other hot weather/travel sleeping bags such as the snugpak traveller or the karrimor global range?

They are good sized bags I'm 6''3' and 20 ish stone and it swallows me fully clothed comfortably. I would suggest only using as a summer bag though or as an outer for another bag in the winter months, I wouldn't rate it above+10c on it's own.
Packs down incredibly small and has a good compression bag included, picked mine up for £35 a couple of years back.

Cheers. Yup was intending to use it in the tropics so should be ok.

Was wondering ...... does it have a square foot or is it a "mummy" style? Also says it has a waterproof foot section? Is this true ...... ?? Good idea if you are wearing muddy boots (I suppose it was designed for the Army) but don't fancy it with my bare feet !

If you've got any photos to give an idea of it's packed/unpacked size that would be great too !

Yeah it has a waterproof, foot section which can be pretty cold if you have bare feet initially after getting into the bag, I tend to use it with my boots on or wearing bag socks.
