I’m wary of anything that washes into our rivers and streams, not sure of the active ingredient of this product, only had a quick scan of the link, but I read an article about dogs with flea collars jumping into rivers and the chemicals being dangerous to aquatic life. Even spraying fly spray in the house the advice is to cover aquariums.I did not know about that stuff; thank you for the link
Himself walks every day in life, down the river banks, through the woods, and across the fields....he comes home and has to check for ticks these days.
I'm going to try that wash in stuff![]()
Stuff looks ok if the claims are to be believed.I am overly sensitive to organophosphates, so I do understand your concerns.
I am also really aware that my husband comes home and has to remove ticks on a fairly regular basis, and I have friends whose lives have been utterly wrecked with Lyme disease.
I'd rather use this stuff, which apparently lasts through many washes than him spraying anti what-ever every day.
I don't know any truly safe answer.
I think that conundrum is familiar to all of us who work and play outdoors though.
Open to suggestions that don't leave him vulnerable to disease from ticks, allow him to walk daily, and safe for everything else.
My dad was a vet and got jostled by a cow he was injecting. Needle stabbed him and he got Brucellosis. It used to wipe him out, but only occasionally, though he carried it his whole life. Still does, 97 on Monday! That they're asking about Brucellosis is interesting though; fifty years ago my Boss (I had a Saturday job as a young teenager in the Dairy) went down with something that wrecked him. Turned out it was Brucellosis, and our Scout Leader couped when kayaking on the rapids bit of our local river, and he too went down with Brucellosis.
We don't hear much of it these days, supposedly rare in the UK, but it caused a lot of damage to people, especially in the days before easy blood testing.
I use that. Have done for last few seasons. It does work but also need to be aware that unlike permethrin it seems to repeal rather than kill on contact, if that makes senses. I still tuck my trousers into socks and wear a T-shirt under a shirt or the ticks get bit crawling up legs or through button gaps. I sometimes also use repellant on exposed skin if I’m trailing in undergrowth and the like.Stuff looks ok if the claims are to be believed.
