Sorry Ceeg but I think Hillbill is sadly right. Folk are generally followers of the herd, and being a bit lazy will take the easiest option if they think they can get away with it because others apparently do.
I think that probably everybody on this forum are the outliers because we are prepared to think and act outside the box.

That's convenient then. :)

I’ve noticed that dog fouling has really significantly increased since around 2021/ish quite why that is i am not sure. I’ve owned dogs for large portions of my life and always taken care to clean up after my animals,Gem my Staffie she wouldn’t do her business anywhere else but home, she would always wait till she got back after a walk. Big Porge my Bullsmastiff on the other hand was typical and so i took the required bags in the jacket pocket.
Why others cannot do this I don’t know, really pisses me off.
Then you get those strange folk who clean up after there dogs and hand the filled bags on tree branches ***.

Even worse though we’ve now got human fouling too, there’s a long alleyway behind my gaff and last year25 some low life had taken to drapping their pants and curling one out on a night on the footpath. Utterly disgusting.

Iam beginning to rant now but littering has increased hugely also, only this Tuesday i observed a young chap in his early 20’s leave a local chicken shop and as he was stuffing his hodge just chuck down the remnants of his take away bones, box and wrappings all over the foot path without a single concern seemingly as naturally as drawing breath to him. He clearly felt no attachment to this country and thus has no respect for it either.

Remember the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign back in the day, maybe that’d be a good idea again. That said this is a very different country now so

There is a possibility we have always been like this for the consternation now being observed to be a product our modern public communications.

But having potentially always been like this that doesn't mean we have to continue being like this, we can be better if folk only stopped resenting the notion to be better as if it was some kind of personal affront.

There was a road of my youth where folk staggering down invariably were not drunk, for the staggering action to be a product of stepping erratically to miss piles of dog excrement, and of course we all remember the horror of finding we have stepped in a pile when as kids we played out on the common

As regards human fouling, some councils have had to put up signs to actually say it’s forbidden. Unbelievable!

Yes that’s right, there’s a little town up the road from me, they’ve had those signs up for several years now. Utterly staggering isn’t it, 21st century Britain.

Not when you consider the closure rate of public toilets over the past 20 years.....

GC

That is a fair comment in some ways.

But just because you can't see a rubbish bin , it doesn't justify leaving litter in the street.

## edit - Yes relieving oneself is a biological requirement but I do think most people can find a more suitable location and option.

Depends what you mean by "most people".....

Persons who've been out drinking tend to need to pee, and cold increases the urge.

Illnesses and long term conditions may cause difficulties that are not very predictable.

Also depends how long they have been out, some trips by public transport for example can be for hours. And some places/routes have literally NOTHING available for a very long distance.

Even by road, I make some regular trips where once you leave the last M-way service station, it could be well over a couple of hours- more if there is any delay- before the next loo stop. Some non-M-way service stations have loos, but not all, and even when they are theoretically present, they may be out of order (for months in some cases......). Community toilets in towns and villages are mostly closed- as are many pubs.

And in the cities, where can homeless people go to do what a human needs to do (especially out of hours)?

If we don't want people taking a s**t in the streets, then starting by re-opening the Public Conveniences and maintaining them in a decent state would help.

Been in the situation Grey Cat describes several times, didn't like doing it but had no choice.
I'd say most garages decline to allow use of their loo's - Always "out of order". In the van I carry a spare bucket, bags and loo roll.

By ' most people ' I mean those not p###ing and s###ing in the streets or back alleys.

We seem to be conflating two distinct issues here.

You are attributing people defecating in certain areas due a definite lack of open amenities - yet that is at this moment in time supposition unless you know that to be true.

I have no idea what makes someone to leave a little surprise present in a back alley - it maybe that there are no close open amenities , it maybe that is what they are just prepared to do for ghit & siggles.

There’s an alleyway near me that runs between the housing and the school.

It’s also someone’s drinking den it seems, as every morning it’s full of empty bottles.

I doubt it’s the local youth, as it’s Newkey brown, spitfire and bishops finger bottles.

The local street cleaner has started hanging up rubbish bags on the fence but they aren’t being used

There is also the occasional human dump. Absolutely disgusting. There’s plenty of green space off the path if caught short but this person clearly feels the middle of the school alley is suitable.

Most Councils are closing public lavatories to save money. I don't know of any in maybe a 20mile radius of where I live. All of the ones I knew of have been closed for some time. Folk have to rely of shops and pubs, if they are open.
The businesses don't really like it, due to young adults, not just kids, leaving them in a mess and the costs of cleaning and maintaining them for their customers. A total lack of respect and appreciation for it being available.

I’m not sure if it is simply a lack of amenities due to council cost cutting or whether something else that has changed within our towns and cities.

A different mindset maybe? - A Lack of empathy? - in this case happily allowing people to step through your excrement.
Is this change in mindset a generational difference?

Did Society naturally peak decades ago and is now in sharp decline?

Or could it be something else has changed?

Alls I know is it never used to be this way.

Ah yes, the good old days of the past which can be harked back to on a whim. Bring back the splendour of rampant pollution, worse dentistry, earlier death, poorer working conditions and legally-enforced intolerance.

I'm pretty sure there has always been crap in the street, it's just not where you've been, that's all.

And now it is where you are, it's possibly not where it was ;)

In 1840’s London maybe. Not 10-15 years ago! :D
