New rules to make it easier to call up reservists for war:

Changing the upper limit for call up from 55 to 65

They can kiss my lily white bottom.

They got rid of experienced soldiers after serving 22 years ( so 40-42 yrs old) and now they want them back.

So the young uns and the incomes won't fight for the country so now they expect us to?

If we're invaded (and that's open to dispute we aren't being already) I'd definitely fight but this lot can go whistle.

I'd be wanting my old Rank back and full back pay for the 18 years they said I was no longer required and those years added to my Pension.

Does this not demonstrate the value of experience in those who served earlier? It would wrong to blame the current government for decisions made years ago, so maybe former service personnel should be flattered by the renewed interest in their skillset, particularly in these uncertain times...?

Interesting
I don't know of any other job that holds a retention on the ex employee like that
Reservist recall is part of the deal unfortunately. I don’t see this as anything concerning though, reservist recall liability is 6 years (2x3 year periods, under slightly different terms). I don’t think this has changed, but obviously it now means that previously if you left the mob at 55 you couldn’t be recalled. Under this, you would be. If you left over 6 years ago and your reservist recall period has been served, then it’s not going to have an impact on you. Not that I agree with it in the first place.

Yes, I think this will be aimed squarely at experienced SNCO’s in technical trades and Officers who have already had a full career. I’d like to think we aren’t going to be getting into a situation where Godfrey and Wilbur are having to fix bayonets.

It’s quite funny that you think of it as a form of flattery though, surely flattery wouldn’t be necessary if service personnel were valued and treated well, rather than treated with contempt by the Government.

I wonder why they might be wanting to recall veterans?

Eyup Martin.

Hope you're well mate and not setting fire to your beard these days. :D :encourage:

For myself, Medical reasons wont let me play.

But if they come for my Son... Well, medical reasons will be ignored from my pov. And there will be those with new medical reasons...

Take care mate.

Thing is... technology has moved on so far, that people in their 50's or 60's would have no clue how to use it, would be slow to learn it, and unable to teach it. Cannon fodder springs to mind... Give 'em a rifle... Ivans that way.... Don't worry, we've already drafted a letter to your spouse/children/ grandchildren.... we got your back jack....all while taking money for the war effort from those over 65...

I don't think so. I did 16 years, serving in dirty holes, missing things with my kids, with the idea that they would never have to.
Since leaving, well we know what they thought of us. The amount of people I knew that were just dumped as soon as they walked out the gate.
No.
Unless there is an actual invasion into the UK (or Republic of Ireland), they'll get no more of my sweat.
In fact there are enough of them to at least make a battalion. If they step up to frontline roles, I'll consider it.

That is sadly and almost certainly true!

Pretty sure they wouldn’t want us now that we are cantankerous old gits with little respect for the establishment and a tendency to not suffer fools gladly.
