If you look and read the papers of the leading various scientists in the field of health longevity you will see they are definitely on the side of the fence where they use moderate supplementation even although they have high quality diet and nutritional intake.

They have reached this conclusion from years/decades of personal experimentation and being involved in the science based studies - if its good enough for them , its good enough for me.

If you feel your own decision and experience , knowledge and learning in the field is greater and diametrically opposed - well, I admire the extent of Hubris at least.
My grandmother died aged 87, my wife’s gm 93, my father 86. None of them, to the best of my knowledge took any such supplements. Just an active life and good food. It’s just a money making fad, unless, of course, there is a genuine medical reason. I simply would never waste my money on such things.

I am far closer to 70 than 60, and I can absolutely guarantee you, I could walk the legs off the average 35 year old, split logs all day and sleep like a tired dog……..…But crack on taking those supplements, no skin off me, and the suppliers will love you for it.

@Silverclaws2
Is there anything you can take for your memory? :lmao:
Possibly yes, but it requires an assessment to take place before I may find effective medication for I am suspected by more than one med pro of having ADHD. The waiting period for ADHD assessment is 7 years nationwide.

Interestingly the medication for ADHD has the side effects so as to be useful in also treating the reason why I have to take electrolyte powders.

Lucky you.

I'm not being snarkey- I say "Lucky" because there is no doubt a genetic component to both long life and being fit until death.... like with the smokers who live to over 90 and remain active and disease-free in spite of the ciggies (and the shot of brandy every day!).

The definition of "Good food" may also vary. If I followed the "standard" NHS eating guidelines I'd be on a bunch of meds for T2 diabetes. Whereas following a limited carb diet (as per Sarah Flowers https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eating-Beat-Type-Diabetes-resistance/dp/1472141172?crid=1JC4N35NNRY13&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.RHnfu7UtTQ2wPu3DpQpXrbtXnyUKyekIgJptiSA73-fZzNzgKiCZSN-DSXvguOp6jezymtRQJ9X9rTC6khVxHq-gwjal2m232IPHHs2sJfP4Zf1TEPf1LhaB4H8oU418bQF-GNFgsorykpBFtz6vSfOEfM01Izh7pTqjDk6VnZVoMuuVslJMrLMpPA4Fso7IDn5xzrelzc88Bzv4rQn1in_KSKGMC7cXY5qXQ-pY1Rk.EtplBTqrq3LG8J9fXIlI7q6b_CDCe5wG2DSYsUfiKmU&dib_tag=se&keywords=sarah+flowers&qid=1753206342&sprefix=sarah+flowers,aps,79&sr=8-2- so lots of green veg, with decent quality meat, eggs, cheese and no cakes or starchy stuff) works for me to keep my weight and wider health under control. I also take care what fats I eat- no refined seed oils for example.

Don't underestimate the struggle that "peasant genes" cause: them's the ones that got passed down because people who held weight on a diet of basic starchy carbs survived the famines. The epigenetic components of famines can also persist over generations- the Great Famine in the Netherlands following WW2 is an interesting study.

There's always of course something we can do, especially in terms of avoiding the worst of sugar and processed food, and getting out and about more. But equally, it's easy to be a bit flippant if you have a metabolism and general genetic profile that makes maintaining health easy- rather than a daily struggle as it is for some of us.

Vit D is perceived as controversial, but all I can say is that when I have VitD3/K2 supplement, my eczema-ish skin rashes clear and my joints ache less. As ever- YMMV. Which is the point I suppose.

Mixed or inconclusive results at best, certainly not strongly.
Creatine is one of the most heavily researched supplements and there is strong evidence of its value for sporting performance & muscle recovery, emerging evidence for cognitive benefits, and moderate evidence for sarcopenia - less so (weak) for endurance performance.

I hike twice a week across Dartmoor, up to 12 miles, I work my dog in the winter 3 or 4 times a week averaging 8, not easy, miles. I am active, not particularly overweight, normal BP, recent routine bloods all good, cholesterol 3.4, rested heart rate 58bpm, and sleep 7 hrs on average. Loads of energy, like beer and wine, do drink a decent amount of water though, 4L a day on average. I am now retired, but I have had a very, very active life, work and play, and continue to have an active life. Gotta keep moving!

Never taken a supplement in my life, a good well balanced diet is all you need……..In my opinion of course.
Couldn't agree more. A good well balanced diet is important

Anyone actively adding salt to their day for the mineral content?
(Note: not sodium chloride salt!)
I take a sodium / mineral complex in summer time - thinking is more likely to sweat or need to top up in hotter months.

Same thinking with Vit D if one is trying to limit supplementation - more important to top up during winter months.

Think Salt intake is one of those things that can be a marmite subject for many. If one is an active individual whom engages in lots of physical activity it's a good idea - if one is a couch potato smashing away cooked breakfasts , probably less so.

The dose makes the poison.

Just curious as to what daily OTC Vitamin / Mineral / Other supplementation people here take on a semi regular basis ?
I eat a healthy and well balanced diet with plenty of fruit, veg and protein so I don't needs any supplementation as I get everything I need from good quality naturally grown food.

However just for the sake of wearing belt and braces I do still take half of a Vitabiotics Wellman Original multivitamin and mineral tablet each evening just to make sure that I am not missing out on anything.

Back on the Vit D now that sunshine is becoming more scarce, still on the Vit C and then I take an occasional multivitamin just to mix it up if I’m feeling spicy.

3mg Melatonin every night.

Electrolyte tablets if I have done much physically exerting or if I am not eating much.

Multivitamin with probiotic as Scotland does have an issue with Vit C and D
Collagen after a GP and Surgeon recommendation before and after an operation.
Fish oil capsule

I tend to rotate through them taking only one of each type a day. Keeps costs down and I have a healthy diet so no need to over dose.

Definitely feel the probiotic and notice on holiday when not taking it.

Not sure how one would know ( as opposed to guessing ) if one is getting everything from a quality naturally born diet ? Can you quantify how you know ??

But I guess you're not 100% confident in that claim , hence the back up insurance of the multi vit

Just saying. Without a metric we are all guessing. Without knowing exactly how good your food is ( the carrots are big and day glo orange - so they must be good , right ?!? ) I'm not sure how confident or maybe bombastic i would be.
