I’ve dabbled with pipes a few times, usually when I’m camping or with friends who are into it. The best advice I can give as a newbie is don’t overthink it at first, just go slow and experiment with different tobaccos since the variety can be surprising. Messing up your first couple of bowls is normal, it took me a while to figure out the right way to pack and how not to light the whole thing like a bonfire. When I decided to try alternatives, I tested the vaporesso gtx one. Even if vaping’s not your thing, the way modern gear works can help you pick up some useful habits for pacing and enjoying the smoke, so it’s worth keeping an open mind about the different styles out there.

When I was a child there were several old gentlemen who grew their own tobacco.
I was a ‘rollie’ smoker and loved the occasional puff on a pipe but never transferred to being a pipe smoker.
I have been nicotine free for 18 years although I still love the aroma of a pipe but even this is a rarity today.
If I ever wanted to become a proper pipe smoker I’d quite likely go for a long stemmed white clay pipe with a tiny bowl.

Aww, rollies I miss em, and yes I did for a while run the same tobacco through a pipe.

Also a lover of the aroma, I have pondered the idea of using pipe tobacco as incense, the only trouble with the idea is will I be able to resist wrapping a rollie out of my ' incense '

Stocked up with some new tins to try. I got another tin of Perfection as I am almost through the last one, but as that’s all I’ve used for the last 3 months I’d say it’s lasted me well. Especially as I was smoking it more regularly over the Moot.

Found an old unopened tin of Kendal Cream a little while ago and it's surprisingly nice. It actually is a bit creamy, kind of easy going and mild compared with the Latakia rich woody stuff I usually go for.
