I'm not sure that I'd count anything in the pockets of my trousers - an article of clothing that I wear - as part of my 'EDC'. If it is attached to a belt - something else 'worn' but whose primary use is to hold up the previously mentioned trousers - or carried (key word!) in a bag, pouch or pack, then those items I would consider 'EDC', whether I carried them every day or not.
What seems to be apparent is the vagueness or flexibility of acronyms. They shift according to need, culture, activity and even mood. 'Every Day Carry' does not - and should not mean 'Every Day Use'; it seems to describe a range of useful stuff that might be of service at some, unspecified point in the day.
