What sort or genre of movies interest you?
I like a good redemption story, 'Unforgiven' (as already mentioned) being a firm favourite. In fact, I think old Clint has made some exceptional films. 'Josey Wales' being another one that stands out.

Hitchcock's 'Rear Window' would be high up on my list. I like those simple concepts that are well executed. Jimmy Stewart is always good to watch.

I also enjoy a lot of British cinema. Mike Leigh films always hold an appeal. Films where not much actually happens, but just really good character studies, and very funny. 'Withnail & I' is another of that ilk.
I'd like to watch 'This is England' again at some point.

Grew up watching 80's Hong Kong gangster films. Good solid themes of brotherhood and loyalty.

And, of course, one of the greatest movies of our time 'Gladiator'. That gets a viewing at least once a year.

Some recent additions to the collection include:

Bone Tomahawk

Glengarry Glen Ross

The Bounty

Apocalypto

This saves me from listing all the Clint Eastwood films I was going to recommend, then! Dollars trilogy is probably my favourite set of films of all time. Have you seen any of his newer ones, like Gran Torino and Space Cowboys?

Some other recommends:

There Will Be Blood
Dallas Buyer’s Club
The Equaliser
Training Day
American History X
Enemy of the State
The Matrix

For British cinema, I was pleasantly surprised by Pride. Didn’t think it would be my sort of film but it was quite wholesome and funny.

Definitely watch Green Book then if you haven't already.

Hmmmmm.

I wonder why so many recommendations show actors pretending to kill people?

Carol?
Mr Turner?
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy? (I know!)

Seen 'Gran Torino', thought it was excellent. Not seen 'Space Cowboys' though, I'll add it on the list.

'A Perfect World' was another good one of his.

There Will Be Blood
Dallas Buyer’s Club
The Equaliser
Training Day
American History X
Enemy of the State
The Matrix
Good list. Can't beat a bit of Denzel. I thought 'American Gangster' was a good watch too.

I sub to The Critical Drinker’s channel on YouTube. I don’t agree with all that he says, but he’s often thinking along the same lines as me with regards to films etc. There isn’t much in the new releases that I like these days, and he does come up with a few gems that I might have otherwise missed.

I find a lot to like on Talking Pictures TV channel on Freeview, and will often record some of the films that they broadcast, for later consumption. In many cases the older films are excellent as they rely much more on decent character development, cinematography and plot rather than bang/crash/wallop and CGI.

My own personal favourite film is still The Fifth Element. I have it in a wide variety of formats, and for me there’s often something new to pick up on when watching it. I also concur with the comments regarding Clint Eastwood films - generally excellent and worth the time.
