About 5 knives and a few SAKs etc. you wouldn't get caught without one I guess.

I am not sure I can stand far enough back, in my house, to fit all my kit in frame . Single, living alone, used to have a reasonably well paid job...it is true what they say about stuff expanding to fill available space!

Sleep systems can be heavy, but my own personal millstone has always been tools and metal-ware. You can have a lot of silnylon and down for the weight of a tiny camp axe, pair of binoculars, extra cook pots, Leatherman packed in case you need tools, carving tools, spare fatwood, lamps, multiple ultralight stoves and metal water containers. In other words, I have trouble cutting out all the fun, cool, tools and toys that "might" be useful!

This is my simple grab kit that is thrown in the car, I have had to use this before when stranded from home for 2 days, worked very well.

That's correct, forget liquid soap, a standard bar and particularly a tar soap does wonders for keeping you healthy and clean in the outdoors.

Many years ago when I was a sheep farmer, I used to use flaked soap for everything during lambing.

That's correct and flat bands only

What pieces of that kit did you use while stranded, and where were you stranded? I am curious, and I admit sceptical, about the utility of the spears, yo-yo reel, and the slingshot. Is this meant as a UK vehicle bag, or something for more exotic travels?

The yo yo wheel, is yet to be used, but the spears and slingshot work on fish and rabbits. Mostly the kit is for fun, and elements change all the time. This kit goes in the car.

It was a number of years ago, while trying to get back from a round trip to get funding for a continuation of a PhD study, found myself in a remote part of North Wales.

Almost out of fuel, a little lost, cold, not feeling well and very tied. Used a mixture of car and Tarp, as lean too, some food in the car to keep me going, collected running water nearby to drink and wash with, and settled down. Waited out the 2 day constant down pour, had a fire and rested until feeling better. Used a cotton cloth to filter water, as didn't have the brown bag then, and mixture of the others bits seen, but the pictured are mostly replacements, on the originals used.

Once the rain stopped, I walked quite a few miles and eventually found a fuel station (looked more like a house and driveway). Got fuel and a lift back to the car and off again.

Nothing exceptional, but made everything so much more comfortable

That does not sound like a fun situation.

Hunting/fishing/trapping gear is always popular in survival kits and is something of a personal bug-bear of mine when that kit is meant for the UK. I know its cool, and fits with parts of the "bushcraft" image, but in the UK its almost always illegal, and I see that sort of gear as a waste of valuable space. I also think that there can be a tendency to pack such kit and cease thinking about other, more realistic and practical items.

The sheath/lock knife is questionable legally for a just-in-case kit, but of unquestionable value if you need to do as you did with tarp and fire.
