And these companies that manufacture and peddle throw away fashion, I wonder what the average age of their chief executive officers and board of directors are ?

Sir Philip Nigel Ross Green, British billionaire businessman ? 67.

Paul Merchant CEO Primark ? Looks about 15 to me,
Paul-Marchant-Primark-670x310.jpg

Their founder died recently at age 83. Cunning and manipulative people these youngsters enticing old men into making themselves multi millionaires by marketing and selling them cheap disposable tat. What's the conspiracy theory behind Bill Gates and Steve Jobs being under the influence of the Seattle pre school mafia.
A more pertinent question would be how old are the average investors? Most I know are under 40 and a good number under 35.

Logging roads in the boreal forest biome are a minuscule intrusion.
The very best walking tracks to go exploring for new sights and camp sites.

Replantation is the law. You won't see all your logging money until we see that your replanting
has met the nominal (or better) regrowth standards.

Log prices are up, demand is down. The Mountain Pine Beetles killed huge swaths of forest.
All the while, there's increased off shore sales of raw logs which should be milled here at home.
So
Some 56,000 lay-offs as the forest industry in BC withers just in the past 6 months.

Pine beetles are deforesting large swaths down here as well :(

I’m about to have my timber harvested in a few months. This will be the 5th cutting in my life and possibly the last as now they only want to clear cut.

Across North America, forests are fiber crops, no different from wheat or barley.
The real guessing game is what to plant that will optimize value at maturity which will be decades from now.
Pulp wood fiber for bulk, low-cost, paper won't ever go away. Make sure you use your printer every day.
Saw logs for lumber are expensive and demand is down.

Mine aren’t “planted” crops. About half of my land (about 36 acres) is in pasture (with a couple of small ponds less than an acre in total) and the other 37 acres in natural forest. By always selectively cutting until now we’ve always had rapid reforestation without planting. The vast majority of my timber is old growth Yellow Pine and old growth hardwood (we’ve never harvested any of the hardwood as yet)

That said, the pine beetles are always a threat and Hurricane Katrina took out an entire hollow.

A “right” by its very definition ceases to be a right if “controls” are imposed on it. No, Europe’s system ain’t great at all.
It is. Everybody except the loonies can get a permit.
In Czech Republic, the right to carry concealed is included in the permit.

No, it is not a 'right ' as such it is a privilege.

Exactly; it’s not considered a right there. In that aspect those governments are exceeding true authority as “rights” are inherent and no government has true authority to grant or restrict them.

The Yeti looks better.
I love Defenders. But the latest one - no. Looking at the price tag - never.

I wonder if the Guardian will ever be a success, or even be for long.
The problem I see is the environmental requirements.
Seems it is being made in Portugal, shipped in kit form to Uk for final assembly?

something I would love to know - the british Armed Forces, what will they do?
Get the Steyr/MB G Wagen?

If they choose that route, income taxes will need to go up.... Those are not cheap. Not even in the pared down mil version.

The positive for us Defender lovers is that the vast stocks of Defender parts will be flogged off cheaply!
I want a Gladiator. I’ve seen a few on the road this year.

I have seen them too. look really cool, but being old and whinging, what happened to the side impact protection?
You hit a 'gator head on, and the flailing tail will hurt you!
Hit an Extinction Rebellion protester, and if the placard does not hurt you, the dreadlocks will!!!
:)

Me and son decided when we saw the first one we would rent one next time. We always try something different.

What!!!!!!
No scraggly beards??
What is next, protesters in 3 piece suits?

We have lots of people in dreads here. One guy, the coolest cat of the lot, age around 60, has some impressive ones, they go to his buttocs. Usually he wraps them in a kind of swirl, and places them in a knitted hat, that looks exactly the 'Cat in a hat' figure.
th

It is always a problem when he is in my (c)hair though.

re biodiversity: What I do not understand is how quickly we have lost all the various versions of cattle, sheep, pigs, chicken, all those wonderful animals. Some are kept in tiny numbers by enthusiasts, but the majority are lost.
Even fruit and veg.

wife bought carrots last week. Grown in Canada. Colder climate = more taste, we avoid the ones from mexico.
I scraped one, took a bite, chewed. Zero, absolutely zero taste. Faint sweetness.
Tested a few more - same.
Used them up in a casserole ( goulash) the next day, quite heavily spiced and properly Hungarian hot.
son asked me why the carrots were so tasteless.

The person who created that carrot strain should be publicly whipped.

Did someone nick your teddy today Janne? ;) So far you have advocated running kids over and publicly whipping the farmer who provided your dinner. :)
And I thought I was a grumpy old woman!
You've beat me on that score today.

Teddy is safe, but dummy ( I call him Epsteeeen) is gone!

That is why!
But seriously, why is high yield so important and taste/ flavour not?

Even the organic produce sometimes tasted watery.
I wish the consumer had more influence.

Consumer pressure worked twice what I am aware of. Pork used to be fat free, taste free and cardboard dry for around 20 years (197o’s - 80’s) until consumers demanded better.
Chicken ( and eggs) tasted fish, they were fed fish meal. Same time, same country ( Sweden).
Better now.

That is one thing I would glue my naked body to a window for, which proper, healthy food grown without suffering and airmiles.

Grandpa what did you do when the forests were burning , the corals and polar bears were dying and the big oil companies started fracking for the last bit of oil and polluting the water?
What did I do son? Why I threatened to shoot the protesters because they disrupted my holidays abroad by blocking roads and trying to stop air pollution by stopping flights. Selfish sons of guns!
Grandpa , I'm hungry and thirsty why is there no drinking water or food?
Because we b######d everything up with our selfishness. We didn't want to change our cosy little lives to ensure your future.
Grandpa am I dying like the polar bears?
Yes son.
