Hi all
Looking for some advice on leather work. I've an urge to give this a real go and concentrate on wallets, belts, book marks, dog collars and possibly bags/satchels overtime all with embossing on them. Can anyone give ideas on tools required etc and where best to get them

I started out with a Stanley knife and small awl to make the stitching holes, then added better tools as I went along.

If you want to get a resonable finish from the start I would get some pricking irons for your stitching. I have Seiwa 2 & 4 prongs in sizes 3, 4 & 5. I tend to use size 5 for most things, maybe a 4 for wallets. Very rarely use the 3. These will help to give you a nice stitch finish.

I use one of these for burnishing the edges, easy to pick up cheap on E Bay https://www.aliexpress.com/item-img...Multi-Size-Leather-Burnisher/32461708942.html

For threads just search for Ritza Thread, most sales on E Bay come with needles.

If you are going to dye your own leather, personnaly I only use Fibeings Oil based dyes. I have never had a good result from water based ones, but others may have done.

This bag was done before I had the better tools https://www.flickr.com/photos/leaky5/19157484580/in/album-72157661401260251/
