Just had a female tawny owl calling around the cottage - that's a first for the cottage - we have seen and photographed little owls and barn owls but only seen one tawny and that a mile away. A silly thing to enjoy so common a bird - but its a first for the cottage :)

Here's you coat Robbi :)

I think she had perched on the gutter before calling - certainly ear splittingly loud! My wife believes she heard movement on one of the owl boxes recently so I fixed a trail camera up on it - I'll keep my fingers crossed that it might be one of this years seeking a territory !

Great, isn't it?
Heard one near here too, but still at at least 300 meters distance.
To me it has that same primeval sound as a loon.

Excellent, I love to hear owls.

Last Saturday night my wife and I were sitting by a camp fire listening to two of them getting louder and closer; quite magical.

They'll try and oust any barn owls from good nest sites, like listening to them from my back door calling just outside the village.

strange to hear one courting tonight, you'd have thought it was too wet too woo
get the strait jacket too red, regards to woo dave

I'll remove the platform - jackdaws are real damage causers here so satisfy the general licence in several ways....I'll deal with them
