I have, some where, a cylinder that had helium for baloons in it. I have been wondering what to do with it for the last 2 years

it has a tap on one, where the gas came out. What about some sort of cradle, one for each end and have it at the end of the fire?

That would work, but it would need a tap near the bottom and the existing one cut off as it is proberbly too small to be usefull. It does have a handle which could be used to suspend it

You want a food-grade metal container of suitable size, with a rotating lid (to ensure no pressure build-up) and a simple brass tap at the bottom.

I can make one if you tell me what kind of water capacity you're looking for!

Hi Stu. I'd be up for the Boone challege. I've been packing a pared down kit to see how little I can get away with. What did you mean about the food, no boil in bag stuff, will we be able to hunt/trap?

That's good news, think it will be a good learning experience, and a way to find out more, I been doing some surfing etc to find out information about these guy/girls like Boone and how they lived, and came across the website. Its meant to be an experience to see how it was done and get a taster, not meant to be just an excuse for a night out in the woods..

I know we will not be able to get the exact copy of their gear due to availability or cost of kit, just for two nights but hey is that not one of the aspects of bush craft learning new skill, and having experiences and learning from them.

Here's the link about food/drink

NA we can not hunt/trap,not worth it for two nights...

For an idea of a few recipies and what else to eat, have a look at the books by Nessmuk and Kephart, I know they were late 1800's but there kit and grub was the same

Interesting site. I'm going to have to rethink on the food. Biltong/jerky maybe Chorizo, dried peas, beans or lentils, Bannock ready mixed. All sounds good.

Thats the way I been thinking, I been looking at my kit/food over the last couple of meets trying to get things right..

Bannock, I have not made for years as Ive just used bread as one or two night bread lasts, or I go pitta bread, I dug out my old recipe for bannock from years ago, and started using it again.

It comes out like a cake type bread, nice texture..
1 Cup Flour - I use SR
1 Tea Spoon Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
1/4 Cup of Powder Milk
2 Desert Spoons of Suet...

I put that lot in a Self seal bag, then just add water and mix in the bag... squeeze out in to billy lid and cook

I also carry Spices, Herbs, Dried Fruit to chuck in to it.. :)

I took some Billtong, dried sausage (Deowars), cheese, coffee grinds, tea leaves, Raisins, Dried Apricots, Cranberrys, Sugar, Powdered Milk,

I will not bother with the powdered milk, and will change modern day sugar, proberley for honey on the challlange, and will add dried apple..

Apart from that will use my Checz bedroll and my Canvas Poncho Tarp, and an canvas rucksac,

Water will not be a problem as we can use the tap in the farm yard :)

I have been wondering about starting a separate thread about this one, as it could be a good talking point.. kit food, and information sources..

Nearly got all the details together, ready to go.

One thing I have thought about, normally Myself and the last couple of guys left at site, check over to make sure that all is OK, no rubbish left.. ect.

There has been a couple of incidents of items/rubbish being left not just at Orchards but also at the new site.. seeing that this will be over Two woodlands, can I ask for help to make sure that everything is good, and in order at the end of the event.
